Depression.

So how did you get diagnosed with depression? I've asked my doctor about it a few times and he just keeps saying "lets try make sure it's not something else first".

Good job man!
:)
And thanks for the read.
It always puts things into perspective when you read other peoples stories and you can see that you are not the only one having problems.

So, does that mean you still live wiff your parents? :p

I actually live with a commune of dwarves, they call me the 'tall master'.

OP...what counts in your favor, I think, is that you're one hell of a good person.
I'm rooting for you mate ;)

Thanks mate.

Aside from the obvious (read the wiki article, and compare that to how you feel and experience life), I went to psychologists who tested me, and every time they diagnosed clinical depression.

That's the reason for the thread. :)

Awesome thread!

I have also always suspected I suffer from anxiety and depression. And then when I started my first job and finally had the money to see a doctor I went to the doctor and talked about some of the things bothering me! And the motherfscker gave me a "prescription" (piece of paper with a bunch of bible verses on them to read). I chucked the paper away and never bothered to speak with a doctor or psychologist again and thought I can manage on my own.

I did a lot of exercise and read a lot of books on depression and anxiety. It did help a bit, but not I still felt very anxious.

Then this year I decided to go to another psychologist again and one of the first questions I asked her was if she is religious. I was very happy with her answer. She prescribed Venlor XR and Adco-Alzam to me.

And the medication really helps a lot!

Great stuff, good to hear.

Just be very careful with the Alzam. Benzodiazepines are very effective at helping with anxiety, but you do not want to use them every day, for a long term period (more than 4 weeks or so at a time).

Using them every now and again when you need is fine, or for a short consecutive period. They are extremely addictive, and very, VERY hard to get off of.

That is odd to say the least. While there is nothing wrong with a professional being a Christian, they cannot "prescribe" religion to you if you go to them with a medical/psychological problem. That is what the clergy is there for !!!

You used to use butter/margarine on your face?! Dude. No wonder the goat was intrigued.

I have done quite a bit of reading, thanks, which is why I'm pretty (actually entirely) convinced I have it, or something worse. Matches a lot of what you described in the OP as well. I just thought that being a medical condition, it would need to be diagnosed by a doctor/psychiatrist... especially if you need medication.

Thanks for the thread though, it's an interesting read and some of the responses are entertaining, especially the one about a doctor prescribing bible verses. Happened to a friend of mine as well...

Clinical Depression is a medical term used to describe artists. :D:D

Keep in mind that depression is also probably one of the most over-diagnosed and needlessly prescribed for conditions out there.

There is no simple quick diagnostic test for it - A 15 minute consultation with a GP is not likely to make any sort of definitive diagnosis.

Best bet, I reckon, is seeing a qualified psychologist/psychiatrist.

Yep, every second person these days claims to suffer from depression (or Asperger's if it's someone on the internet just being an idiot.) I don't want to be that guy which is why I need a proper diagnosis. Guess I'll have to go and see someone eventually...

I read up on the medication she gave me and told her about my concerns with Alzam and she also told me I am only on it for 2 weeks. Just until the Venlor "kicks in".

Since I have started to take medication for my A&D I have to say my concentration also improved a lot.

I found out about 6 months ago completely by accident that the Dr I went to is also a fundamentalist

Ever slept feeling like absolute crap and then woke up feeling like a million dollars.

We need depression to revitalise us.
Embrace it.

Hmm, I think you mean fatigue/tiredness/frustration.

If you have depression, you go to sleep feeling like absolute crap, (usually after being awake for hours in bed trying to get to sleep) and wake up, late, still feeling like crap or even worse than before and having to force yourself with everything you have, to get up. At least that's how I understand it, because that's whatever I have.

Could also be Bipolar.

A few people I know felt like that and they were all diagnosed with Bipolar at some stage.
