Depression.

I know exactly what you mean. And you really need to talk to someone. A person facing a burnout needs to take time off. If you have mental issues (Depression, etc.) then you might want to think about talking to a professional. The mind can be a terrible thing.

I am taking the time off soon, I just don't know if I also need to talk to someone about it.

If you feel you need to, then maybe you need to.

I don't know if I need to because I don't know what the upside will be. I know medication can work, provided you get the right medication, but I'm not sure about talking with someone. Maybe I'm just negative.

Just 2 more weeks and I'm on holiday. Going overseas, complete change of scenery.

Just careful you don't get sick. It's as if, after long periods of stress, when your body finally has a chance to relax, it just caves in. Also see if you can't get some treatment before the hols. I have in the past been unable to enjoy a long-awaited holiday due to depression.

I know, it has happened to me before. Getting sick after long periods of stress that is. Will see.

Except Trepaline is a ****ty drug.

There are better alternatives available. Go and read up on the side effects of Trepaline.

Only seeing this now. Apologies for the late response.

It probably helps that I am on a very low dose - 10mg so I am seeing a serious increase in quality of life and none of the major side effects listed.

I will only be on it for about another 3 months as well.

This is very much a case of why you should seek the advice of a qualified medical practitioner and not some random dude on the internet.

If you can afford it maybe try something different like a life coach or similar, your challenges are perhaps more an issue of dealing/managing successfully with what's presented to you in your life than anything else but that helplessness left to fester can develop into some more serious mental health challenges, downward spiral into depression. Learning some better ways assert yourself, protect your interests, be decisive etc.

Psychologists and psychitrists are awesome if you have time and money to burn(finding a truly all switched on one is another story all together) or if it its just a little speed bump but other than that they seem to really struggle with giving people concrete life skills as a part of the process they offer but at the very core life skills are what you really need to cope and thrive.

I don't believe in life coaches, I think they are the epitome of being a white with too much money.

Lol and using outrageously expensive psychiatrists and meds is not?

Life coaches seem quite handy, suppose it's the same as any field you get the money hungry charlatans. Wouldn't say using them reflects anything other than your desire to explore all avenues to right yourself.

CBT also looks to be a huge degree more hands on and effective than traditional methods.

Psychologists and psychiatrists need to have degrees and a lot of counselling experience. Psychiatrists have to first complete med school.

Life coaches have to... what?

Life coaches are just charlatans, sorry.

Unfortunately degrees don't automatically bestow wisdom or common sense upon human beings neither do doctors get given either upon graduation. Some do take the initiative to get both though, quite a rare feat, a trusted referral is normally the only way to find them, they have been known to charge up to R800/hr though .

But ja if you go to a rubbish life coach you will essentially be going to a charlatan, probably plenty out there. There are also some very helpful ones, they are not the answer just an option to consider.

Guys I need some advice.

I've been going through a very bad 6 months, and as a result, my depression has relapsed. Its mostly due to work stress, although that is not the only thing.

What approach do you guys recommend I take in dealing with it? I do have a 2 week holiday at the end of July, which I think will reset my stress levels, but I'm not sure whether that will be enough to beat the depression.

The factors that have caused my depression are mostly gone, although my work environment is still quite frustrating for me. Its better than it was though, although my reaction to stress is now over the top.

Should I wait until after my holiday and see how I am? Or see someone now? If I do see someone now, should I see a psychologist or a psychiatrist?

My 2cents:

See a psychologist before the holiday. You might get some tips to get the most out of your holiday. Good luck!
