Depression.

I know an AMAZING psychologist in the Blouberg area.......she also used hypnosis. PM me if you want her number......
 
Thanks again for the replies and PMs. Are there any good depression and/or anxiety disorder support groups in the Southern Suburbs?
 
Anyone on SSRI's taken a major libido dip? And did you take anything to fix it?
My SO is getting pretty despondent so I need to take action.

I've tried Damac, but haven't been taking it consistently, and it doesn't seem to help.
Was thinking of finding some natural testosterone boosters like the gym guys do.
Any suggestions?

I decided to stop taking pills exactly for this reason. I love sex. The pills completely killed my sex drive. I did quit my job since then and I think that's helped a lot. I didn't deal well with those people, they made every day horrible. So I think that was a major part of me needing it. I'm still not doing awesome and the bf suggested that I go on meds again but I'm not keen due to no sex drive.
 
I tried stopping a while ago. Went fine until I hit a stress period, then it went tits up.
The wife is starting to think she's not desirable or that I'm getting it somewhere else, hence the need to fix it.
 
When I was on anti-depressants, my libido took a major dip. Switching to Paxil sorted that out, and actually increased my libido, I don't know why, but that's what it did for me.
 
Paxil is an ssri and killed my libido, you're lucky that it's having the opposite effect on you
 
I've found one med that works but also kills libido however you are able to perform, just lack of general interest up to that point.
 
Oh I also wanted to mention, I find psychiatrists overpriced! Initial session is around R3k then shorter followup up sessions and I was given ssris who I felt didn't help. I went back and.. Prescribed another ssri, still not helping :(

They are not really that expensive considering that they have to deal with all types of personality from patients. Also the change of medicine can only be effectively achieved by your psychiatrist when you're in a controlled environment like in a hospital. Why do you think doctors like to book their patients in hospital for "observation"?
 
I've heard of that.. Observation. However I've been told to stop medication x and try y. Just my general experience is that they listen for symptoms to merely prescribe a pill

You can't reasonably put people into hospital for observation in the context of antidepressant medication, which can take several weeks to several months to start working.

I don't mean to sounds trite, but what else are they meant to do? The meds that may or may work on a given person often involves a lot of trial and error.

That being said, I would not personally see a psychiatrist again (I have once or twice), as there is more than enough information accessible to me that I am able to make a reasonably informed choice about any medication I might want to try. When it comes to really serious mental issues, then I believe they have more of a role to play. But that's just for me and how I choose to deal with things.

I also thought so until the time that I was booked in hospital following an anxiety attack at work where my tongue was swollen to the point where I couldn't breathe. Was booked in hospital under my psychiatrist's care and saw him everyday for sessions where my medicative therapy was balanced out with talkative therapy, all the while my progress was monitored closely by nursing staff until the psychiatrist was happy with my responses during the talkative therapy.

It took up to two weeks to treat my mental setback but I am glad that I went through that, since my medication is able to carry me through the most trying times since that hospital stay.
