Worst advice I ever got was to go on medication, you know , to balance your chemistry in your brain. I was a zombie for 6 months. I now use Stress control Tablets to help me.

So after almost 3 months of anti-depressants, I've decided to go off them. I just don't feel like being a little bit more motivated is worth all the down sides.
Lot of jokers in this thread, not so funny when it hits home. My wifes brother (Or my brother in law) is fighting for his life now. He got hit with depression, tried to take his own life. We got the call 03:00 am Last Friday. Dont think we have had any proper sleep since, SO rushed through and has been in PTA since, I'm stuck at home having to manage staff. At critical point today, machines will be switched off. and then we have to wait and see.
Well, I am exhausted, lost 3 days of income. And the **** will still start.

Heading to the doctor at the momentYou might have to get a doctor's advice on how to go off them Akasha, maybe cut down slowly. Best not to do it alone.
Just bear in mind I said meditation not medication.

While I understand what you are saying, and I've been through a similar experience myself, it must also be noted that the right meds can literally be life-saving.
If it works for you. It took away my personality totally. Luckily, been years since.
As it did mine, hence my referencing the right medication.
I just bring it up, as there's a definite generalised opposition to medication and this is absolutely the worst message to send to those who do indeed require the stuff.
You might be correct, but it is a personal thing. Dr's dont think so.
Please read my post on the previous page and let me know what you think.
The problem with me is that there is no chemical imbalance to be corrected. There is a problem with the structure of the brain.
Thank you. Much appreciated. Feeling very lonely now.
I am correct, insofar as for the people who need it, medication can be a lifesaver/changer. There is, however, absolutely a conversation to be had about whether medication is necessary in the first place for a given individual (or whether other avenues have been thoroughly investigated) - there I am totally on board with you.
I found it interesting, and relevant - I've had occasion very recently to discuss some events of my earlier life with a mental health professional, and I have no doubt that those long-ago days contributed a great deal to my current struggles. However, I also have a long line of documented clinical depression on both sides of my family line going way back, so there is almost certainly a genetic / chemical component to what's going on as well.
I'm of the opinion that a (and I shudder to use this word) holistic approach is the best bet to deal with mental issues in general, with a special caution to getting sucked into the emotion surrounding some treatments (whether it's the apparent airy-fairiness of mindfulness, or the zombiefication caused by meds).
Mindfulness is my personal next step in looking into my travails...
If you need someone to talk to, I love listening. One of the few things I do well
Stay strong! <3
So my wife and 2 year moved overseas (planned) and I'm feeling like utter poop. The doctor has pushed me up to 100mg of serdep which I'm hoping will help.
