All I really need is 1 wired connection through to the lounge so a few wired connections can connect to it there. Is a desktop switch basically a hub?

Had a v quick look, looks like just the wireless is different.
A switch is not a Hub...the terms are not interchangeable...however, you would be extremely hard pressed to actually find a hub to purchase from a shop.
Basic difference, hubs flood packets out all ports, switches learn Mac addresses and only forward packets to appropriate recipient (in most cases..) google hubs vs switches to see the differences.

For what it sounds like you need, either will do...they are not Gig switches though...just as an FYI
