Hi Guys,

I want to get my car detailed. But want someone to do it professionally for me. Does anyone know of someone good in the Joburg area. I see the guys on the Meguiars site do it, but not sure where and how much.

Thanks for help....

Can PM you the number of the chap who prepared many of my clients' cars before they took delivery... I'm not sure what he'd charge, but his operation is mobile so he'll come to your home or office.

I do my own detailing (by hand) and the results are really good. Use only Meguiars products and ordered all my stuff from Autogeek.net. Prices are dirt cheap as even after paying for delivery it still came to less than half the price than I would pay here in places like Makro and Builders Warehouse. Plus the shops in SA only sell a few products so have to order online anyway.

I have:
Meguairs Nxt Gen Wash (use every 2 weeks)
Meguairs Nxt Tech Liquid Wax 2.0 (use every 3-4 months)
Meguairs Smooth Surface Clay Kit (use every 6 months)
Meguiars Ultimate Polish (use every 6 months)
Meguairs Ultimate Wax (use every 3-4 months, substitute for Nxt Tech Wax 2.0)
Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax (use every month)
Meguairs Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner (use every 2 months)
Meguiars Insane Shine Tire Spray (use every 2 months)
Meguiars Quick Detailer (use only when claying every 6 months)
Meguairs Ultimate Quick Detailer (use after wash every 2 weeks)
Meguiars Ultimate Protectant (use every 3-4 months)

Plus a bunch of microfiber towels and foam pads. Think it all came to just over R1k and will last a few years detailing by myself 3-4 times a year. Car always looks in showroom condition and it's almost 6 years old. Most people think it's new :)

lol..what? I only detail my own car. Don't have a business going:)
I just commented to show how much you can save by doing things yourself. It's also fun to work on your own car. A professional detail can easily cost over R500 a time.

The thing is. I dunno what Im doing, and don't wanna mess the trim up or sumin. I'm a real noob when it comes to detailing, but the cars on the Meguiars site look SOOOOOO sweet..

I learnt everything I know from the Meguiars website: meguarsonline.com. The forums there have everything you need to know. I'm only detailing for about 8 months now.

You only really need the basic products. A good car wash like Nxt Gen Wash and a good wax like Nxt Tech 2.0. I went a bit overboard to take care of every possible part of my car :)

If your car has lots of scratches and/or oxidized paint then it is easiest to go to a professional first. Then once the scratches are gone start detailing by yourself to maintain the finish.

Awesome advice mate. Nah, my car doesnt have a lot of scratches and stuffs. It still looks good. Just noticed some swirl marks the oda day when the sun was shining straight on the car. And I don't like it. Will have a look at the site and then do it. I also saw that they say it isnt necassary to cover your rubber bits etc as the polish doesnt dry white. Would you still rather cover them to be safe?

Covering with tape would be best if you're not too careful, especially if your rubber bits are porous. Some products will leave a white residue if you don't wipe it off immediately. The stuff I have does not though so I just wipe off immediately if I mess the rubber.

Cool, I bought some Meguiars stuff yesterday. Will try it out this weekend. My buddy also bringing his orbital along. Will post some pics on here from before and after..

Word of warning. Orbital use is not recomended for noob detailers. Unless your buddy is skilled at using it I suggest that you don't let him use it on your car. Orbitals can burn and marr the paint if your run it dry and it's also dangerous if the foam pad gets some grit on it.

^^^^^^^

Damn, I need to double-check his skills. He done it on his own car a couple o times before. Didn't look bad at all.. Now u making me wonder if I shouldnt just use elbow grease...

Do some reading beforehand about proper washing techniques first: 2-bucket washing method (1 for shampoo, 1 for rinsing), use a proper wash-mitt, sheet rinsing to assist with minimal drying and DON'T USE A CHAMOIS FOR DRYING THE PANELS. Rough washing and drying is the first way to scuff the paintwork.

What if u don't use a bucket for rinsing, but a hose pipe? :)

I also have a Microfibre Drying cloth, and the Meguiars Wash sponge thing. Sure that'll be ok...

By rinsing he meant that after you wash a panel you must rinse the dirt and grit out of your wash mitt in another bucket before getting more shampoo on it and moving onto another panel. The 2nd bucket is not for rinsing the car. Just the wash mitt so that it is always as clean as possible.
