Hi all,

Has anyone else experienced a very painful connection and authentication process for Diablo3 on Afrihost uncapped? Lately in the evening it takes me several attempts to even login, then I'll still spend another 10-15 minutes timing out while trying to join a game.

Ping speeds to a local site www.google.co.za are fine, Speedtest.net returns 3.5-3.6Mb on a 4Mb line so as expected.

I tried out a WebAfrica account after getting irritated and the problem went away immediately, so it is definitely an ISP issue.

Could it be shaping? I thought gaming wasn't shaped?

Regards,

Lofty

Lofty, I game a lot online, & I was with Afrihost CAPPED.

Let me tell you they are terrible! Packet loss for days! & this is on a capped account, not even Uncapped.

I play online to servers in USA, EU & local.

Enter other ISP account details, BOOM! No packet loss. Perfect gaming experience.

My advice? Get out my man. Go with someone else.

This.

Pretty unambiguous advice, thanks guys.

Any recommendations? 4MB ADSL... for now... :)

This is the IP of the EU server (213.155.155.233)

Get some evidence that is AH's fault.

Afrihost Uncapped is horrible.
Afrihost Capped is fine 80% of the time
Web Africa is great 99% of the time. I prefer that for gaming.

I'm done with SA uncapped bull. I have an Afrihost capped account for general use and I sometimes even use it for gaming when it's fine, but for the most part I have an Web Africa capped account just for gaming.

The way I use it is just leave my Afrihost acct on the router and just dial out from PC with WA acct for gaming when needed.

Hi Lofty & everyone else :)

I know things aren't great at the moment, I can promise you though that a lot of our teams are sitting down for good R&D sessions to have Diablo and battle.net services tweaked and optimised to work perfectly.
Unfortunately I don't have an ETR on when things will be 100% - but please know that we're making good strides forward.

Hi AfriGuy,

This was unexpected and pretty cool. I personally really appreciate you popping in here and making a post.

I still have a 200GB Afrihost acct (dropped the horrible uncapped for capped). As I said 80% of the time it's fine and it's certainly fine for anything else, but there was a time when you guys were pretty damn great for anything. GL getting back to that.

No worries! It was OP who dropped me a PM and asked me to chip in here though, so I can't take all the kudos!
Capped should be fine, it's the shaping policies that need tweaking from our end - should have mentioned that in the my first post. Yesterday there was a massive crunch session to overview where we can improve on this. I'm talking Red Bull and coffee all around. No one leaves until we nail some things down.

So we're definitely looking at this as a priority. And I'm pretty confident that we'll turn that measly 80% into a 99.9% (hard to guarantee that 100%) to [sales line]Pure Internet Joy![/sales] :p

Last night was just a nightmare on my afrihost mobile, after what seems like the sixth disconnection I switched to MTN ISP, which was a lot better

Thanks for the feedback, happy to wait it out for a bit. I'd be grateful if you could swing by to let us know when you've made some changes.

I've also been getting a mixed bag of problems on my Afri capped.

First I had some daily line drops at 7:30-9:00pm, but I called in and after some fiddling in the background that came right. Then there were the 2-3 days of the line staying synced but with massive packet loss, so much so that you couldn't open a web page or do pretty much anything. That also seems to have been resolved.

But now at night (e.g. 8:30-9:30pm) pings seem to go up by 100-200ms. A stable ping of 250-325 is ok to play with; but a fluctuating 325-500 not so much.

Has anyone else been having overall latency issues this past week or two in Diablo 3? I'm with WebAfrica capped and where I usually sit on +-210ms, I have consistently been having 500-1000ms lately. When I'm lucky it drops to about 340ms.
A friend of mine is with Afrihost and has had the same problems the last while.

Same here game is almost unplayable

This is exactly the reason I left Afrihost for Web Africa.

I was on a capped product. In terms of sheer cap, AH is better since you get more "any-time" data, but WA is just way more stable. For gaming, AH is/was terrible.
