Diablo 4 - Official

Does anyone else feel like this reveal was rushed out because of how bad last years blizzcon was.

The game was only kind of working, sound problems and felt like they literally had developed 30 mins of gameplay and had a cut off of 20 mins. To me it look like it only had about 8 months of development.

I hope I'm wrong but I think the earliest we get this game is 2021 but probably later.

Enjoy the reveal and move on - they said "It won't be soon, not even Blizzard soon." So 2021 is already a mighty stretch. I too hope it'll be sooner but I've got more than enough other things to enjoy in life until whenever this is released. Oddly enough, the reveal actually has me looking at all the other current aRPGs out there right now.

I skipped D3 due to the RMAH and the always online requirement. I'll likely skip D4 if it has an always online requirement. In fact, the last Blizzard game that I bought was the first StarCraft 2 game, which was years ago now.

I hope they add a secret unicorn that farts rainbows as a nod to the controversy surrounding how colourful D3 was.

It's already confirmed to be online only, can't see world events for example working without it. But D3 had really fluid gameplay, I don't recall the ±200ms being an issue at all (vs for example online shooters)

I watched a few more reveals during the weekend. It looks and plays very much like Diablo 3 with improved textures. Seems a bit too similar to the current game to get too excited. They even have the same classes with the same skills as Diablo 3. It's almost like an expansion to D3 with enhanced textures and new story plus a new class (Druid). It's like their aim was not to make a new game and instead just make a better D3.

There is the new skill tree like Diablo 2 which is the main difference but the skills/passives seem to be very simple in design. The skill tree reveal was the only thing that got the crowd a little excited in the entire presentation so many feel the same way. Looks like the skill system will still be nowhere near the level of customization that Path of Exile has where each skill can have 5 different support gems (sometimes more) that modify the skill in different ways.

There are a ton of different skills and supports too:

Not everyone likes the complexity of PoE lol, I tried playing it and fell asleep reading countless tutorials shortly afterwards

200ms is not an issue, not even for fps

I cant recall a single issue ever with D3 lag

It's not really that complex. You have your skill gem which you put in an item and link it to supports to make it do different things. Pretty much everything else is just enhancing damage/life and getting resistances. Or making you do different types of damage like bleed, poison, ignite, etc.

If you want to see what POE endgame looks like, have a look at a few of this guys videos. He's been making builds every week for years. Watching tutorials and slow early game videos doesn't really give the correct view on POE endgame which is were most of your time is spent.

This is D4 thread so will lay off on the POE but it's important to make a comparison to what is out there now. POE is also getting a huge overhaul in the next year or so with their 4.0 update which they have been developing for a while to be the response to D4. One of the things they say they are improving is the animations so it will feel and look a lot more fluid.

Once again, I personally don't find PoE end game appealing. It's way too fast with too many effects all over the screen, to each his own. People that still play D3 know about PoE already, it's the reason they play D3 and will play D4, no reason to advertise PoE in here :p

If you want a simple, slow and basic game then yeah D3 is for those people. Should have just said that.

Can also play POE that way (slowly with less effects) if you want to but different strokes for different folks. You can customize exactly how you want to play whereas D3 holds your and and tells you how you should play. That's the major difference between POE and D3 and it seems like it will still be the case for D4 from what we have seen.

Remember when D3 was announced and it felt heavy and gritty - you could climb ladders, bosses could tear you apart (18 minute mark in the vid) and all that?

Damn, the game looks slow compared to now.

I disagree I gave POE 250ish hours for a season a couple of years back and I found it dreadfully slow compared to D3. With D3 you have to be exact with every keystroke or you go from finishing a GR with 1 second left to losing 1 minute over time. Try pushing into the top 200+ in D3 and tell me how slow and basic it is.

For me POE is better then D3 in every way except for gameplay that is why people go to D3.

From what I saw in D4 on quinn69 (top 1-2 D3 streamer as well as a top POE streamer) stream who gave the Devs a bit of stick you are going to have a pretty simple skill tree with a lot of either or choices but where it is going to be complex is with runes and the dev said "lots" of ruins.

I really want to like diablo 4 and i want it to be good game but after the diablo 3 AH and nerfs and dull down. Ill wait for the game and not hype myself up on this one
Same here. I got REALLY bored of Diablo III. Didn't even bother with any of the "expansions". It was one big bore fest.

I didn't do Diablo 1
I did do Diablo 2 but only in offline mode for years and years (I still yearn back for that period in my life … those days were good).
I did do Diablo 3 for a couple of years and many seasons, but the problem is … in order to be competitive online you have to have no job, no social life and get by with only 5 hours sleep a night and of course have a capital or trust fund to supply you with all the trivialities like food and lodging to sustain you through gaming.
Oh, and that auction mechanism in the beginning was an experiment in absolute (unregulated) market economy that went directly south, very quick and very bad.

I will give Diablo 4 a try.

I'll probably give D4 a bash once it's released, although I reckon it's going to be a good 4-5 years until then and the game will most definitely change a lot over the course of those years and will be nothing like they showed off at Blizzcon.
