Bloody hell! Is it installed yet?

Yes, finished a few minutes before the scheduled start of loadshedding last night.

Will start playing as soon as I get home today.
You goddamn better.

And then please post a review, however brief. I've been looking forward to this for years.

Yeah...my only complaint at this point is the watermarks on the screen.

I can honestly say this is going to take over my available gaming time and lead to much wife agro and very little sleep.

It's grim and dark with no cartoonishness the way Diablo is supposed to be.

Bringing back actual skill trees and points to allocate won me over immediately.

I play POE and like the intricacy of their system but this feels more right. I'm playing blind, I haven't been following development and did not read what anyone had to say beforehand. I can take these skill trees though and decide where I'm going and how I want to play without gimping myself.

So 2 nights in and the feeling just gets better.

Still slogging away with my first character, up to level 20 something, respeced a couple of times to try options when things get tough.

Took part in my first group activity which gave me a great toy for another character later.

The integration of quests/bounties/challenges into the world with level scaling just works.

Is this freely available now?

Still loving it, not getting enough play time unfortunately with family and load shedding.

The world system really is fun and most things you do benefit you in some way. If you wanted to you could do all your leveling/grinding in one zone and leave it at that. You get permanent rewards though for venturing out and doing the other zones. "Crafting material" also differs by zone so you do need to explore a bit.

The skill tree remains a big plus point and really gives it that original D2 feel without being POE.

Items tie in very well with the skill tree as well. You have the standard +1/2 to specific skills or groups of skills but it becomes a lot more intricate with the ability modifiers on items. My setup changed completely after I found an item that said "Skill <x> now counts as <y> and does <z>" The skill itself wasn't part of my build but the item brought it in and allowed me to do a respec and pick up some other things I had wanted to try.

Big push this morning and finally dinged 50.

Did the dungeon quest to unlock nightmare difficulty.

Paragon system adds even more complexity to the game by having to plan your boards and the path you want to follow to get buffs.

Once again the world integration plays a role by unlocking paragon and skill points. The world has shrines that benefit all your characters as you find them. World rewards carry across characters.

Best bet for leveling and gearing is to run world events that give grim rewards, these range between 1 and 5 depending if it's just a kill, an event or a dungeon. Collecting 10 let's you claim 1 of 3 random caches, which have a chance to be legendary.

Normal caches have a chance to drop a legendary. Legendary caches drop 2-3 legendaries. Most caches are slot specific (weapon, chest, boots, helm, etc) but you can get chaos chests which can drop anything.

Fudge me but this is making me drool in anticipation.....

Now that I've hit 50 I'll start a second character and focus on an area of the map I didn't do with the first seeing it benefits everyone the same.
