Am I the only one who thinks that Dial Direct's HelloPeter page is a little suspect. Those compliments are mostly from first timers. Also, A ratio of 1083 to 420 on HelloPeter?? I dont know. What do you guys think? Could they be faking compliments somehow?

I ask because Im considering insuring with them.

I never base any decisions on anything I read on HelloPeter. I can tell you that I had 3 small accidents in 1 year (only one was my fault :D)... Dial Direct sorted me out every time and when I wanted to insure my new vehicle 3 months ago, I again got comparative quotes and they were still the cheapest.

I was insured with them for ages, until one day a woman jumped a stop street and wrote my car off.
Dial Direct treated me like a criminal, trying every trick in the book to get out of paying. I eventually spoke to one of those people that fights for consumer rights and I was paid out shortly after.

Needless to say, I cancelled my cover with them pretty smartly.

Would not recommend. I now go through a broker.

Stay far away from all the direct insurance companies, especially Budget Insurance, Auto & General, Dial Direct and First for Women (All one company). The worst. Crooks

Go with a good broker. Establish a relationship with a broker, eventually you'll get better premiums than these direct insurance tossers but from solid companies like Santam. That's the old school approach from yesteryear. I tried it once I started insuring my stuff several years back and I've had great premiums after the first 3 years. Initially 20% higher, than the same, now less and from Santam. Couldn't be happier.

And stay away from the hippo site. All the companies on it are owned by the same holding company. It's fake competitive quotes.

In 2010 I got paid out for a written off car and later the same year accident damage on my new vehicle to the value on R19k from Dial Direct.

There is still no insurer that could better my current premium with them.

+1
We had multiple break-ins two months ago and my insurance company refused to pay. At the end of the day, my broker came through and everything was paid out. Insurance companies will all try to get out of paying and that is why you need a broker to fight for you.

In my case however, Dial Direct has always quoted me at least R1000 more than what I'm currently paying... almost double.

Horrid company... they use such dodgy panel beaters... for ONE accident I eventually had to go to the ombudsman.

Panel Beater one:
Used really bad quality pirate parts... I could bend the bonnet with my hands, the headlight would fall out if you touched it, the wheel would catch the inner wheel arch. I eventually drove to Cape Town from Jhb like that..then contacted the ombudsman.

Panel Beater two:
Had to take the vehicle back multiple times, the panel beater would do things like attach panels with cable ties, spray panels while on the vehicle, etc.

I'd stay away from all these "no middleman" insurance scams...

Hmmmm... Just go and check out some of the other insurers pages on Hellopeter as well, there seems to be a trend, I.e. Auto & General and MiWay. It does look a bit dodge. I am insured with Santam, through a broker, costs me "50c" a month more, but the service is excellent. You only deal with the broker and never speak to a call center agent, etc. Inbox me, if you would be interested in her details. Easily paid out claims for car crash as well as lightning damage to electronics.

Yeh - when ever I've needed to claim, I just email through the details to the broker - and problem solved.

I was with them for a year because they were the cheapest. After the first year they wanted to increase my premium by 20%. So I called and asked them why since my car would've depreciated. Increasing prices of parts and the car moving into a higher risk category was their excuse.

So I cancelled with them and moved. Ended up getting a 15% cheaper premium than I was already paying so I ended up saving about 35% (if I had stuck with them).
