Did Steve Walsh rob the Sharks?

If all of what you're sprouting here was true then the Bulls would have finished top of the log and had a home final. They didn't, so that can only mean one thing: you're full of it.

The Sharks have been consistantly the best South African team to have played in any Super rugby competition since the days of the Super 10. We've won more games in the Super's than the Bulls. We've played in more Super semis and more finals than any other team in SA.

What I can say is that you mofo's have got some bad karma coming your way. The wheel turns, china. For the Bulls it turns around a lot faster than it does for the Sharks, but it turns, so be careful.

Remember when the only way to sell a Bulls Season Ticket was to mug somebody and force the ticket into their pocket? Back then the Sharks were filling King Park stadium week after week.

What happened on the 19th was illegitimate. And Steve Walsh must die.

Sharks Super 12 results:

1996 - 2nd
1997 - 4th
1998 - 3rd
1999 - 7th
2000 - 12th
2001 - 2nd
2002 - 10th
2003 - 11th
2004 - 7th
2005 - 12th

Are you sure the Sharks are the best [consistent] SA team to have played in the Super series? As far as I can see they finished in the bottom 3 four times. As for consistency, in 2000 they were last and in 2001 they were second.

Just a thought :)

Can we get off the point of who deserves the cup more? This is entirely a matter of opinion. Both sides played good, consistant rugby throughout the season to get to the final. This should be the most important fact to South African supporters, not who's name is on the cup.

so the ref missed a few offences on each side it happens in every sport (Marginal LBW calls from cricket umpires, free kicks in Soccer) at the end of the day the sharks could have secured a win but they made 2 vital mistakes end of story.

Just to clarify something. Yes, the Sharks made 2 vital errors during that last passage of play.... but this is not the end of the story. As has already been proven, so did the Bulls, and so did the ref. Sharks more than made up for their errors by applying enough pressure to cause these errors, and the officials should have picked them up.

Yes, refs miss offences and make mistakes in many matches, and in many sports. They are only human. So the question that needs to be asked is,, how do we improve on this? Why isn't the TMO given more power? Even if the ref and the touch judges missed an offence (although in this case, if the touch judge missed it he needs to be fired), the TMO should be able to pick it up and report it to the ref. Cricket and Rugby both could only benefit from more use of this technology. For one thing, discussions like this would be unnecessary. The TMO shouldn't be muzzled until the ref feels he might have missed something.

The match might be over and the winner recorded, but this should not stop us from discussing what went wrong in the match itself. The players have post-match reviews to see what they did wrong and how to improve on this. Why can't the match officials do the same?

Oh, just to close off, I feel Steve Walsh had a good match, compared to some other games I've seen in this season. I have no gripes with his performance. Sending Habana off in the first minute was his call, and although I feel it did warant a yellow at least, I can understand his reluctance to send someone off that soon in the match.

I'll take you back a few pages to where I said that the TJ's need to be able to throw a flag when they see a specific infringement. Or give them a whistle too.

I don't like Steve Walsh because I disagree about his performances not only in this match, but also in others I have seen him officiate in. Habana should have been sent off with a red card. It is irrelevant how far into the match we were. If Monty had to have been stretchered off with not only his career in jeopardy, but also his mobility, who would be to blame? Habana or the ref? I say they are both at fault.

If you let a player get away with a dangerous stunt like that you set a precedent and the other players think "hey, well if he got away with that..."

Walsh's failure to react with authority in those opening moments set the tone for the rest of the game. It was an incompetent display of officialdom that ultimately resulted in a hollow "victory" for the Bulls.

Agreed on this, I just feel the TJ's might make the same mistake, so give the same power to the TMO.

Agreed on this as well. It was a final, and an infringment of this sort early in the game should have been more severely punished. Hence why I said at least a yellow. Especially since this isn't the first time the Bulls have employed this tactic early in an important match (Matfield punching BJ anyone?). It would also ave made clear to the players that no further infringements of this sort would be tolerated.

I agree that Steve Walsh, and Southern Hemisphere refs in general are sub standard, but he did have a good game. Not a great one, but at least competent. Yes, there were errors. Unfortunately, match officials will keep getting away with these performances until they also start catching a bit more than just flack from fans after a poor performance. It's time the players and coaches get the freedom to complain poor decisions from officials without the risk of recieving a fine.

@AmaZulu: I wish you can just stop. You are going on like you know the rules from page one to the end, every word by heart - which you don't (not by a mile). It also sounds like you are the best referee this world has ever seen. Oh no sorry, my mistake. You aren't are referee. You are just a couch patato to scared to go out a do something meaning full. So you rather sit and insult the referee.

Why don't you go to the Sharks Rugby Union and become a referee yourself??? I know why...because you will never even advance past the first level...and all that the first level guys do it act as touch judges...

Can the mods please just close this thread because there is coming nothing valueble from this thread anymore.

And by the way. 10 years from now nobody will even remember that the sharks played in this final. All that will be remembered is that the Bulls won and became the First South African side to win the Super Series...

i'm a shark and proud of it. the last try, funny enough, is always show a move after Danie Tiaart cleary knocked the ball and then (while on the ground) slapped it back, the Sharks turned it over clearly and then it ""popped" out on the bulls side. Makes you wonder. I'm not one that easily says "its the ref, blah blah blah". But the fact that Steve publicly wrote an apology says enough for itself. Steve is one of the best refs in the world, and is Andre Watson's prodigy. But that Steve and the linesman on the touch side where the "incedent" took place, missed it. and now have put there chances to go to the World Cup in serious jepardy. It was written that Steve was on the short list to be the ref in the Final of the world cup, now he has moved on to the short list.
True what's done is done. Congrads to the Bulls and the supporters who are big enough to say that they weren't the better team, but took it. I'm fine with that - the thing i can't take is the supporters that are "we knew we'd win we are the greatest... blah blah blah. it's not needed.

So in short - Steve is a human, people make mistakes.
- Sharks deserved the win, didn't happen lets move on
- Bulls won, congrad now shout up about it.
- A team gets measured by it's supporter, and some bulls have
tainted the victory, that's not right.

Correction - Bulls first team to win the Super 14. The First team to win a super series cup would be the Lions. (Super 10 champs) just a small FYI.

with a NZ coach nogal.
In '93 '94 and '95 we had a team in the finals, Transvaal winning in '93.
We won a world cup during that period.

This year we had an 'all' SA final, good omen for the world cup I hope.

Let's just hope it doesn't backfire on us like the world no 1 ranking did with the cricket

Very true. after all these hot words back and forth... all comes to one things

I've been watching this game evolve since the All Blacks toured here in 1976 and lost the test series to Morne Du Plessis' Springboks 3-1. Don't proclaim to know how much I know or don't know about the game. That has nothing to do with this discussion. FWIW, I have probably forgotten what you still have to learn!

It also sounds like you are the best referee this world has ever seen. Oh no sorry, my mistake. You aren't are referee. You are just a couch patato to scared to go out a do something meaning full. So you rather sit and insult the referee.

Do you know me? Do you know who I am? No you don't, so please keep your ridiculous assertions about my involvement in the game to yourself.

Do you think that I would have any more sympathy for Walsh if I attempted to do his job? No mate, he made a mistake and it affected the outcome of the game to a HUGE degree. He's in the black book of AmaZulu forever.

Then what are you reading it for? Move on (to paraphrase a few others partaking in this meelee).

Now that's where you're wrong and that's precisely why this topic has carried on for as long as it has. We, the dyed-in-the-wool Sharks fans, will ENSURE that history records the outcome of this final as being bogus, by reminding people 10 years from now as to just how the Bulls managed to steal the trophy.

And again, they are not the first to have won. Transvaal won the Super 10 back in '93. What, were you in daipers back then?

AmaZulu....get some perspective...so what are you going to do...make sure that all the history books say, 'The Bulls Won, but actually the Sharks did'. By carrying on about this you demean the Shark's achievement's over the entire Super 14, all I'll remember now is the constant whining of the likes of you. I know you couldn't care less....but maybe you should :p

I don't think the Bulls stole it. If that is the case you can go and report it to the Police if it troubles you so much. I do think though the Police has more important stuff to attend to. :)

You should really try to get over this. The rest of the world is moving on ...
