Did Steve Walsh rob the Sharks?

That just proves the sharks won..WTF
!!!!

Is the sideline ref blind or just plain stupid.

Here is the proof BLUE BULL fans.

Read and weep lets here the comments. Please dont tell me thats what happens in rugby....BECAUSE its not what happens in rugby. Thats why there is a line ref with a mic as well as 3rd tmo.

The bulls should come drop the cup of in durban.:D

If they are to concede that, then they should have no trouble conceding that this should have been a penalty http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=585 which could have altered the end scores (dangerous tackle around the neck by one or two players, depends on how you look at it). I'm just saying that if the Sharks supporters can be unhappy about something that should have been a penalty, maybe the Bulls supporters should be unhappy as well?

Did that happen AFTER the game should have finished?

The Bulls and their fans have NO RIGHT to be suggesting anything about high tackles. If the IDIOT known as Steve Walsh was a competent ref, the Bulls would have been playing with 14 men for most of that game since the guy who scored the "winning try" should not have been allowed to continue beyond the point where he nearly broke Montgomerey's neck.

Enjoy the trophy, Bulls. You know you don't deserve it.

Why don't we have the right to suggest anything about high tackles? If you say that high tackles should be disregarded, then I believe tackles in the air and all of the other rules of rugby can just as well be thrown out the window. We can start playing jumprope if you prefer?

No, this did not happen after the game should have ended. Nothing happened after the game should have ended because the final whistle only went after Habana's try, that's when the game should have ended because the ball was still in play after the hooter went. The only thing that happened after the game should have ended is that everyone keeps moaning about Steve Walsh.

I ask you again, do you not think that the evidence given in the picture suggests a high tackle, which deserves a penalty? And a penalty could have changed that whole game, the Bulls could have scored a try because of that penalty. That's what all this fuss about Steve Walsh is, what ifs.

We do enjoy the trophy, the Sharks deserved it for 79 minutes. Pity about the last few minutes though.

You can not tell in that image, you need to see that in motion to be honest. And what horse are you going on about "The only thing that happened after the game should have ended is that everyone keeps moaning about Steve Walsh." STEVE HAS ADMITTED THE MISTAKE THAT COST THE MATCH. From the horses mouth so don't come with that drivel!

I honestly can't believe you idiots is still going on about this.

1: He did not admit to anything. He only said that he might have missed something.

2: Why do you guys blame the touch judge?????? This has got absolutely nothing to do with the touch judge. The duty of the touch judge is to point out foul play and to and to help the referee make decisions with regards to the line of touch or touch in goal. He also has to signal if a penalty or conversion kick has been successful.

So it was not the tj's duty to signal a knock (if there was one)...

3: You moan about a picture and now claim that you cannot say from a photo that it was infact a high tackle. If you claim this, how can you say from a photo that a knock forward happened????

There have been more than one incident on the field where the sharks got the better end of a wrong decision!!! So I think that you guys stop moaning about this and just carry on with your lives!!

By the way. What exactly is a high tackle???? There doesn't exist something like that!!

Refer back to the laws of the game:
10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Penalty: Penalty Kick

A player must not tackle (or try to tackle) an opponent above the line of the shoulders, A tackle around the opponent's neck or head is dangerous play.
Penalty: Penalty Kick

...

So there is nothing like a high tackle - it doesn't exist. If that tackle on the photo is not above the line of the shoulders, then I really don't know.

Remember one crucial thing. A referee can only ref what he sees. If doesn't see an offence, then he cannot make a decision on that.

Another thing that you MUST remember. A referee can only make a decision on fact. He cannot rule on the intention of a player. If a tackle was above the line of the shoulder, that constitutes to dangerous play. He cannot oversee it because it was not the players intention to tackle above the line of the shoulders...

Right, maybe a comment from some one who isn't a complete moron. Of course the touch judge is there spot these errors when the ref is unsighted or misses a clear infringement. Are you insane?

You point one high tackle in a still image, no one mensioned a knock on from an image, that image displays an illegal move of playing the ball on the ground following his knock on but again you are far to blinded by bullish pride. Watch the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRjCmB7hfew

In regards to that photo maybe he missed that high tackle but he also missed the offences that should have led to Bakkies being in the sin bin for REPEATED offences including off the ball instances, late shoulder charges and high tackles, so lets not take it there.

If we even move away from the ruck in question have a look at the great pass from Jaco, it is at least 1m forward, in front of the touch judge too, this time just the other side.

Their is no denying that there was a monumental fk up that cost the Sharks the match!

OK James...so now what...it isn't going to change a darn thing...it won't make you feel better or for that matter any Sharks supporter. ALL your points are valid....move on

How does one get over something that has been denied to them wrongfully? If some one has the answer please tell me cause I just can't get over this :(

I agree it is difficult...but dwelling on it won't change the result. The Shark's were not the first and they will not be the last to have a trophy snatched away from them due to an official's poor decision. It happens in soccer, cricket etc. Human beings make mistakes.....don't know how you are going to change that.

The rules unfortunately mean nothing if they are not applied by the ref ;)

Yup!

@ James & Amazulu - Get over it by beginning to look forward to the hiding the Bulls are going to get from the Sharks in the Currie Cup. Also, we've got a small matter of The All Blacks in Durban soon!

@ Mieliespoor (only) I see you're ready to make a noise when your team wins, but when they lost to the Sharks earlier in the season, you disappeared after having a lot to say before the event.:D

What did I have to say? The Bulls lost that game and that was it. When a team loses, they have got only themselves to blame!

I don't make a noise about the Bulls winning. I just want to point out that the referee is not the one who should take the blame. If the Bulls did end up losing, I promise you I would not have ranted and raved like you guys are doing.

I honestly believe that the Sharks were the better side on the field for 79min of the match. The Bulls however was the better side on the field for the 2minutes that counted - the dying minutes.

Credit to the Sharks for the effort! Credit to the Bulls for the determination and will to win!

This game was a far cry for good beautifull rugby, but at the end it was tight and there was never a clear winner even though the Sharks played the better rugby for most of the game.

Ok. I have had just about enough of this crap.

Like I said in my previous post, All I want to do it to point out that the referee is not the one to blame for the Sharks losing this game.

I am a referee myself and I must say that what a I have heard other [very experienced] referees say and write doesn't really differ from what I have said all along.

Please refer to the following article. It was written by either Jonathan Kaplan or Marius Jonker - the two most experienced referees in this country.

There are video clips on the website also and explinations for the incidents aswell.

I have said it before and will say it again. The referee might have missed a few things but he can only blow the wissle for what he has seen. I think he had a very good game and he managed the game exellently!!!

In that article they have written what the touch judge has seen at the Danie Thiart incident. Hopefully that will also explain to you guys why he hasn't said anything also (to the referee) - although it was not his duty.

Please read the article and understand what it said within.

To quote Marius:
Marius Jonker said:
Referees gets told that they are blind, deaf, complete arseholes and cheats at most of times, but I want to let you in on a little secret. The biggest problem with referees is that they are all cold blooded and that we actually do not care who wins games. We just go out there and referee that what the players dish out on the day. The game nowadays is far too quick for us to actually make decisions favouring certain teams and not to act impartially.

Next time you watch rugby and seeing that you always end up taking sides forget about the teams playing and throw your weight in with the referee. We will welcome your the support.

I'll remind you!

@ Mielie - I truly hope you stick around mate. (Even tho you're from the B... B.... See I can't even say the name) When S14 & CC start we can have some interesting 'chats'. Especially after 3/2/2007 when the Sharks thrash your mob.

:D and then I'll tell you 'I told you so'.

I always say one has to dream - it's good for you, but then you have to dream realistically as well...

Remember now?

Also, don't be so quick to generalise & read the whole thread.

I promise you I would not have ranted and raved like you guys are doing..
It was a particularly galling to lose after the Sharks had scored that try with 3 minutes to go. Unfortunatley the score is on the board and us Sharks fans must be sporting about it and congratulate all those Bulls supporters whom we tried to outdo last week with our mean jokes and threats of a hiding.

I get solace from the fact that 1. an SA team won the S14 for the first time ever and 2. we live to fight another day.

If Steve Walsh lost it for the Sharks, then I was at a different game.

Dude, I think you must take a few days off to calm down. We (Sharks) played the better rugby for 80 minutes. Unfortunatly the whistle didn't go for 83 minutes. Such is rugby. (Ask the Crusaders) All season we had the ball bouncing our way, the whistle going our way and the scoreboard going our way and some of us had nothing but scorn for our opposition.

We all had big mouths before the event (intensionally so), now we must suck it up. It's the nature of sport. To now insult our oppositions fans is unsporting behavior and I for one distance myself from it.

I was at the game. In case you don't think I'm passionate about the Sharks. I almost had tears in my eyes twice during the game. Once when we "won" and three minutes later when we lost.

Unfortunately for you, it is only the scoreboard that counts at the final whistle no matter who you think won. I suggest you check the record books in a year, ten years and one hundred years time and let me know if it's changed. I'll party hard for for the one I missed on 19/5/2007.

Hmmmm, silly me. This is all OT.

There is no excuse for the abyssmal refereeing that resulted in the WRONG team lifting the trophy. Yes, the WRONG team.

What should happen here now is that the match should either be replayed (think of all the money they would make), or the Bulls should admit that they didn't win and annul their acceptance of the trophy. I do not accept that they won that match and I will never "get over it". I also think that Steve Walsh should be banned from ever reffing a final or semi-final ever again.

Mielies, you just don't understand the anguish that this has caused.

Springbok rugby is irrelevant political cow-towing. The Sharks are my team and they wuz robbed.

The RIGHT team won, and it is written down in the history books. Maybe next year...
If the bad calls of referees are to be disputed in a rematch etc. then we have to turn the clock back to the games where the Sharks were handed the game due to bad decisions. We might even have two different teams in the final then...

I thought Walsh reffed the game damn well. All this baby-whining by Sharks supporters just makes you look like a bunch of whining babies.

As much as u sit here and ridicule the Ref and Bulls for winning the match, Your thoughts will fall on deaf ears, You call for the Bulls to be stripped on their title and ask for public humilation of Walsh for letting the Bulls win??, Which will and wont ever happen, You sit here and discuss it and sound like one of those old vinyl records which dont F'ing stop.

you moan and moan about the same thing

suck it up like a MAN!!! and deal with it!! If you ever played the game then you know what it feels like to be on the recieving end of bad decisions,Those players are proffesionals and the learnt to deal with.

so let me guess just becos you the sharks can score a Try 3 mins from the end of the game THAT automatically means the bulls ARE NOT allowed to score a try to win the game becos YOU say so?
