DigiChilli January Status and feedback

Skype video chat worked well for me for a tonight for a while (20 min). Which is a first with DC. Then started disconnecting all the time time I turned on video
 
i think they are having issues with their shaper - seen this with the WA test phase aswell - 3/4 of network traffic is p2p and killing the experience for everyone so they need to shape everything and develope an optimal shaper solution.

How is that possible? Does it burst that much?!:confused:. Surely they could allow torrents for everyone instead of excellent news server downloads for a few 4meg guys!!!

I tend to agree with that ...... Us 384K'ers are battling to get 20KBps, while the 4Mb'ers are flying at speeds we can dream of......

I believe this is a big part of our problem on DC......

Bear in mind that you have to see where your traffic comes from as well. International is definitely shaped for everyone. The only time you'll get that kind of speed is if you're getting local content. So if you have torrents with local peers you will get excellent speeds, for example.

International and local traffic doesn't use the same infrastructure (except for the IPC links).

To be honest, I think it is fair if you look at the playing field,
So 4096/384 =10.67
Therefore when you are getting 20 KB/s(384), which is approximately 45% of your max line speed, us "4megers" are getting 20x10.67 = 213KB/s which my account normally hovers at and which as well is only 45% of my full line speed. So yes it is fair! Not very often do 384ers get full line speed, and not very often do 4mgers get full line speed, like they say you get what you pay for!

No, very wrong. The account is 256Kb/s or 32KB/s. It's only fair that everyone has similar speeds and only when everyone on 384 is getting line speed should you be able to get more.
 
is there spesific port settings for p2p? uploading and downloading 20kb then drops connection.
 
I get full line speed with Afrihost on 384 and 516 never tried a 4MB line though.

Completely agree.

You should be getting what you pay for.

No more and no less.

Great that he's happy with out of this world speeds but not so great that those speeds come at the detriment to the rest of the user base.

That's right though. With Afrihost you're paying for data, with DC, you're paying for speed. Getting 4Meg on 256Kb/s packages would be the equivalent of getting 16GB on a 1GB package...

I have to agree with kaufies. you are getting a 256kb/s account not a 1Mb account. everyone should have the same speed regardless of which line they are on. I think this is what DC needs to sort out, then they can figure out the bursting when everyone is getting their full 256kb/s speeds.
