DigiChilli January Status and feedback

68% percent packet loss to Johannesburg from me in Cape Town.

and no it's not my line, on telkom:

on youtube debug info streaming HTTP is extremely erratic, going up and down like crazy going 12kbps, 24kbps, 112 kbps, 56 kbps, etc. peaking at most 167 kbps. On telkom isp it's normally in the solid 250's at least.

is that not exactly what a managed service is?

Maybe it is but shaping http rapidshare downloads, that's a business protocol???....yes now RS is working fine but earlier? Also are people getting their guaranteed 256k?

still say it's false advertising....will see what say :)

what do you read into the following??

"With South Africa's best Uncapped and Unthrottled ADSL service, enjoy a sizzling connection with no restrictions for down and/or uploading."

Also having weird fluctuations with Rapidshare - just after I posted the speed test results yesterday my Rapidshare downloads slowed to a crawl (around 2K max) but my browsing and GOG downloads were fine. Hopefully these issues will be sorted out?

i think it means they will ensure enough bandwith per user so that you do not get throttle to compete for bandwith, with the no restrictions i think it means any content.

but not sure, this will differ from person to person. :) i am just glad RS is working again.

My RS downloads have gone to zero again. Even when they were downloading, i can not finish a file, goes to 99.??% then just goes to zero KB/s, so effectively downloads stop cause no file downloading but it thiks it is still downloading. have to use afri to finish all RS downloads.

And my news server speeds have dropped again to below 20kB/s.WTF!!!

We did do something. We updated the definition files! So now are shaper knows of SL and all the rest.

This new definition has resulted in lots of packages going into the correct buckets but we may now have to adjust the buckets. e.g. Torrents suddenly slowed down cos the 'new' list has moved another 30 torrent packages into line.

So anyone using one of those packages is now going somewhere (albeit slowly) whereas they weren't going anywhere at all before. Same as SL is now in a definition which allows it to be put into a proper gaming profile. XBOX etc.

RS is one of those that moves out of 'I'll get as much as I want' into downloads. See above.

We'll adjust the total allocations after we've collected 24 hours data.

Great, thanks for the info, Dave. :D

Now, DC is fast becoming major competition to the other uncapped ISPs. ;)

Let the "bandwidth abusers" flock off... ...to the other ISPs now. :p

Me loves DigiChilli!

^^ The only reason why ppl go to DC is to abuse bandwidth! It is Cheap UNCAPPED if you are not going to be a High bandwidth user whats the point? if they wanted speed and reliability then they wouldn't have come to DC...

Better?

Disagree. Downloading at your package speed 24/7 doesn't constitute abuse. Afaik it's the people that are hiding their p2p behind http to circumvent shaping/throttling that are being considered the abusers, or similar practices.

Go DC I believe in you! :D (But I'm not going to sign up till I see things are working well :p)

True. but if its uncapped whats the problem with using the bandwidth that you pay for at the price the ISP charges any way you deem fit? Yes it is sucky when they do that but they do pay for it

*edit*
if the package throttling works it wont matter how you download. you can only download so much with a 384k line.

Were you also trying your best to insult me?

Ask the last one how that went. I'm sure "it's" still fuming... :p Oh happy days...:D

Well, I see no problem then. They must accept that others will not allow them to get away with more than a bustable, to double the speed they paid for, account.

Everyone complains about the slow speeds, but these characters are getting all that speed lost by others.
