Allan, I would wait just a little longer for Bev Brossy's uncapped internet. You know the one.

She is with our friends, Global Verge, the ones offering uncapped 20meg for R499. hehehehehe

I wouldn't go with saol, don't listen to straat, he is going to be sorry fairly soon. :D

Yes ...

But I have to make a choice before the end of the year, because i need to decide on an ISP for January. So unless whatever you're referring to comes soon it would be useless for me.

Well, there is your problem. A person doing 200KB/s+ on an account meant for ~60KB/s.

Please explain to me what line speed offered by Telkom is good for a 512 kbps package that is advertised to be burstable to 1Mbps?

The only thing really holding me back there is the line transfer. I would prefer to keep my line where it is right now. If it wasn't for that, I would be signing up in an instant.

Moving lines between providers is too much of a hassle, and I happen to like the service at the place it is at the moment.

Service is great at SAOL to if not better, If you get tired of SAOL ADSL just cancel it and just rent your line from them. From what I understand they get the line wholesale from Telkom so they can still make a profit just keeping your line.

Dave any word on this upstream issue? Also are you guys 100% it's not the shaper causing this issue (that is, turned it off for a bit and checked if speeds were still playing bumhockey) and indeed the upstream problem?

DC I have been a subscriber for 2 weeks and right now I feel you have failed your subcribers in not providing what you !!said you could!! on your WEB site. Surely when something new is started with the right people on board you research and compile a commisioning phase which would entail some real testing of the Network. When this has met or surpassed expectations the time would be then to trial with a hand-picked group of people. Next stage would be to go live we would not be where we are now if this was done.
Now what need to be done what is the plan of action, no point making the excuses every day people want progression not regression.

I believe you can still get it to work?
But will you get it right on time before us subscribers pull the plug.

Yes. Except that SAOL resells CyberSmart bandwidth, and they have this in their T&C:

7. If you subscribe to our ADSL service, you are required to cancel any other ADSL service you may have with any other ISP.

I have some WA prepaid cap I use. If I go strictly by this, I would have to cancel that account, and lose whatever I've managed to accrue there.

MILD - only R500 per month

Uncapped,Unthrottled data connection for general user for only R500 per month.

Minimum guaranteed speed of 256 kbps.

No thresholds? Download all you can.

No rolling windows? Go for it. We understand downloads.

The MILD package is 256kbps burst-able to 512kbps, obviously, not from 512kbps to 1mbps.

:D

Hey, SAOL isn't my first option, I know them quite well and don't really like their offerings, however R499 for uncapped at 384kb/s is sound rather impressive at this stage.

What i'd like to know is, if DC is using Seacom for their intl connectivity, and so is SAOL, why can't DC get it right if SAOL has. From experience SAOL has never had the greatest of ping rates on their unshaped accounts, and their uncapped/thresholded to 15gig accounts have always been somewhat less "user friendly" than most other uncapped offerings.

Anyways, I am really hoping DC will come right soon, i don't want to lose having an uncapped connection at these impressive rates, but if all you can do is download on them at 500b/s there's no real point i guess

And on what basis can you give this advice? Back it up or keep quite.

I have both a Digichilli account and SAOL account; I can tell you SAOL does not dip below 35KB, torrents max out at 39KB. The results speak for themselves.
