And on what basis can you give this advice? Back it up or keep quite.

I have both a Digichilli account and SAOL account; I can tell you SAOL does not dip below 35KB, torrents max out at 39KB. The results speak for themselves.

Saol = Best uncapped at the moment.
Digichilli = Potential, but they need to get the network working.
Cybersmart = Will probably have the best offer fairly soon. :whistling:

Go to the cybersmart thread to see the chatter.

The basis is probably just that he's against being tied down to an ISP, as am I.

They (Cybersmart) also have this in their T&C, if SAOL is reselling it then the same stipulation probably applies:

5. You are required to use the @cybersmart.co.za email address that comes free with your ADSL account

I'm not using an ISP that tells me I can no longer use Gmail etc. I see it as just another way of them tying me down. I would have to change my email address with everything to the new one, and change it later when I drop their package. ISP email addresses are a step backwards these days (as you want to be able to change ISP on a whim).

I can't use my prepaid backup accounts either if their network goes down, as was stated earlier.

Any ISP other than SAOL gives those same kind of results, so will DC when it's fixed. SAOL isn't all that great so far as I can tell (yes their package is attractive but there will always be something better looking). My advice to anyone right now would be don't get any contracts with anyone, wait it out using prepaid or conventional capped accounts as you have already been doing, more ISPs will surely release competing packages.

@Phatboy I'm sure I read that Cybersmart does not use Seacom, therefore if SAOL resells Cybersmart it is not Seacom either.

I have had a uncapped service from them before, I have tried their unshaped 4 GIG service and experienced latency of 400 - 500 ms on online games, compared to others like webafrica at 200 - 300ms, I have tried their prepaid service. Speed tests indicate speeds of roughly 250 - 300kb on their uncapped 384k service compared to other ISP's which offer 300 - 360kb on uncapped service.

Most of their accounts, uncluding prepaid, and normal 3g, 5g, 10g packages etc are not saix packages, they are of alternate connection. So you only get speeds of say 100 - 150kb less than you line speed, and if you use a 4meg line on their packages you are lucky to get over 3meg service.

8.8.8.8 is the google dns server. Problem is they are an extra 250ms slower than the local ones.

Use your other set if they give good pings.

nope. only international servers they can connect to beacause they dont have access to the saix network (atleast thats what i saw from their thread)

That's correct. We had IS access but got kicked because we don't pay for it. Same goes for SAIX news servers.

Still cannot get Secondlife to work. The speeds are ok for browsing, but it just hangs when trying to log in.
