Digi-lemon&herb
I've been lurking and watching the digichilli threads since this "too good to be true" offering came along, and have only registered now, hence my 1 post.
I was one of the excited masses jumping up and down, waiting for launch day so that I could get my hawt uncapped account. I opted for a MILD account which I'm sharing with a friend.
The first day was worse than dialup, by the second day things were awesome even better than I expected - 100kb/s. This "bursting" pwns I thought! This lasted for about 3 days, after which it's been downhill all the way.
I'm now at a point where international and local is dead - 0.5kb/s local and international, most sites time out, no steam, irc, gtalk etc.
Minimum guaranteed speed of 256 kbps.
This isn't happening. End of story.
Yes Dave and co are working around the clock, yes it's a new ISP and it's to be expected. Yes I can ask for a refund, but that is all besides the point.
Personally, I would test a "40 million rand" network with more than 50 people. Only testing with 50 people was an utter failure, real testing started in December and everyone is paying to be a tester.
South Africa is bandwidth starved, we're like a country of starving refugee's when it comes to the internet. So
obviously when you offer uncapped at R300/R250 a month, hordes of people are going to sign up and go ape-sh*t - I know I did...or at least tried to.
An uncapped ISP needs to be able to handle this and have measures in place to accommodate this
before going live. So how the hell can you test with only 50 users - its not exactly like it would have been difficult to get more users to test. So obviously everything fell over when it went "live" It's like offering a month long buffet in a refugee camp and expecting everyone to only calmly have one plate of food for the month.
I honestly think that
Digichilli should give everyone December free, the fact that some people, myself included, have managed to download quite a bit is besides the point - this is uncapped, usage doesn't come into it. What does however, is that DC only works one day out of seven. That's a testing level of service, not a live level of service. It's a bit ironic that I can't open google while using an ISP that's a google reseller.
That being said, I
sincerely hope that digichilli pull it off. They're currently the only chance that SA has at cheap uncapped and hats off to them for trying to make it happen! I've been watching the threads since day one and silently supporting them and trying to be patient. I'll be in my element if DC starts running as it should, but right now my hope is waning every day.
I want digichilli, not digi-lemon&herb.
