Only if the packet loss and thus the slow speed cannot be resolved. However, as we have seen, the problem is resolved when heavy users are removed from the system.

Even Howzit admitted a few days ago that they have upgraded their system "and bandwidth".

More bandwidth is needed and more control of the extreme users.

My connection died yesterday around 17:00, I have not been able to authenticate since then...I get error 691. PM'd Dave this morning, his response was that he is looking into it and that it seems the sysadmin has an issue...since 11:10 I've not heard anything from anyone at DC.

Proff

Hey Proff - you're not the only one - same thing happened to me - no authentication since yesterday pm.

PM'ed Dave this afternoon, no response as yet.

Can't login to http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ either - so its definitely an authentication issue.

My other Telkom a/c's login to http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/
fine.

Apparently Screamer is now really, really good.

That being said, I'm going to stick with DigiChilli a while longer and see if the problems get fixed before I change

Really? Have the pings been sorted out?

Single threads 3-10KBps, for servers that allow it using a download manager for multiple connections can get full line speed (384k).

I'm seeing all traffic suddenly stop for a few seconds every now and then, not talking about the 6 hour reset anyone else have that? Things do seem better overall though.

I don't understand how you (Lightscribe) can say that things improve when heavy users are removed. There was a point some days ago when they banned some people that were heavy, I didn't see my speeds increase then. How are you aware of whether or not other users are being removed unless they tell us? Basically I don't think they are removing people at all, and if they were I'm sure they'd be voicing their opinions of that quite loudly here.

The six hour reset wouldn't affect "heavy users" if they are torrenting or using Usenet or downloading from a resumeable server with a download manager (routing the torrents through http and Usenet was blamed for the heavy usage by DC afaik) as they'd auto reconnect. I put it down to them tweaking the system (as I'm seeing the speeds fluctuate quite a bit), but we won't know unless they tell us.

No one will be getting any more than they are paying for, so I don't really see how it can be abused much?

I'm forever testing and reading the thread.

I have seen speeds get better, when Dave mentioned that some had just been taken off.

I saw speeds improve earlier, when the reset happened.

Whatever ways are used to get more than double the paid for speed, are wrong.

DC should find a way to limit the speeds of those that use the 4meg lines and a spicy account to reach above the speed they paid for.

Yes, when in Secondlife, I watch the bandwidth monitor in the statistics window and I also always see the bandwidth drop away to nothing, then pick up again, continuously.

:D Still waiting for my mail from Screamer to activate my account since I'm on the short list to be added once their system has been upgraded to accommodate more users

However I'll be staying with the chilli madness since except for 1 hiccup a couple of days ago all my issues has been fixed as per daves last update yesterday morning. MSN\yahoo messenger now works and http downloads single thread +-20kpbs with download manager atm I'm doing between 35 spiking up to 42kbps. Torrents (all international) run during the day between 25-32 kpbs+- and always over 30 at night. 384 line on a spicy account. 20.6 GB downloaded in 11 days so far

However if I where still gaming...I would ask for a refund and come back in a months time and if digichilli is still the cheapest and I see on MyBB all issues have been addressed then Feb 1st I'll give them a try again

But if you choose to stay and your having issues well ... looking at the progress made for some not all over the last 9 odd days... I would say your looking at another 10 days at best before the dust is gonna settle. But I do hope its waaaay sooner for all those that are experiencing problems

Right now the only thing that works for me is http, and torrents are sitting on 0.2kb/s.

Why are some users getting what was advertised, while others are on dialup - or can't even login!? I'm yet to see someone from Digichilli answer this.

Guys, come now...I'm not stupid, afterall, I have a Msc degree in comp science, I think they are and have already started cutting off people. It is NOT coinsidental that some of us connect, but no data and others cannot auth at all. I know I'm right, the lack of communication from DC gave them away.

Proff

Highly likely, the lack of communication speaks rather loudly.

I don't think they are doing it deliberately.

I have had times for a day that I could not log in.

I switched to my telkom account and kept an eye on the thread.

When I saw that others could log in again, I tried and usually could.

Dave did post earlier. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=207517

I'm sure they are watching the thread, but cannot respond to each and every post, so they give a general rundown as often as possible.

I wonder if there's really a problem that they CAN'T fix, maybe they just WONT allow all protocols to work right now. The network did work well for a few days in Dec, so it can work, right?
Isn't this perhaps a way to get rid of potential "heavy users" ?? Annoy them by allowing torrents, but at 2KB/s so they'll leave? Not saying this is the case, just a thought.
Well, I'm gone, got Afrihost
Will check out screamer in Jan.
