DigiChilli Network Status

I'm getting error 691 can someone please explain to me please, cant connect to digichilli only telkom.

PM'd you G3rri3.

Thanks techrat and raedwulf.

We do understand your frustration.

Google isn't the cheapest. They're the best. We're authorised Google partners. And more than that too. The Google Apps that we sell are an upgraded version of the 'free' google apps available to the public. They rock.

The Google DNS was being used to eliminate any possibility that it was our dns servers causing the issue and latency. It's now eliminated.

We have had some over usage issues, not really due to any intention of users. The BIGGEST user - yeah, its still Gustav - is cool. He's behaving since the last hammer episode. He's network stats and monitoring software have even helped us a bit.

So, it's not just your torrents. Some people have deliberately set their torrents to be 'hidden' as http. Its not a common default, and hasn't caused too big an issue before. Even 4Mbps users aren't causing the issues. Further deliberately tweaking of your settings to avoid bandwidth management may be an issue now and then.

The deliberate brute force attack and DOS attacks are a bit annoying. We normally phone these guys and ask them to behave nicely. It would be better if we didn't have to do that at all.

We're are working 24/7 on the issue and will sort it out. We are making some changes which we have identified as possible issues. It is not something that even our BAD test users uncovered. Suffice it to say that it is in that piece between managing throttling to package size and contention with its myriads of settings. It's not something anyone has done successfully yet in this country, but we do intend to be the first.

Hold tite. This won't hurt much and you will be down for 10 min.

Morning all.

Dave

Morning Dave!

Update: My latest speed test is as follows: Download 3.8kB/s Upload 12.4kB/s (SpeedTest.net -> Joburg Server)

Another Update: HTTP download speed 40 kB/s.

Another Update: Torrents and Newsgroups have increased to around 15 kB/s each.

Good Job!

I'm in the 196.44.64.x range.

I'm getting about 20-30KB/s on torrents, not sure about HTTP, though. But it was the same yesterday morning, as well, then a little later it drops again.
Thanks for all the work and effort you're doing, Dave, and still putting up with some of the things that people says.

I also see a big improvement in speeds. Torrents are performing as can be expected with the Spicy package and local speedtests show a vast improvement:

Good work Dave. I really hope it stays this way.

From what I can gather now is that maybe DC is using a Google Apps that is made for ISPs, http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/partners/index.html

If they are a Reseller or Partner, then they are actually making money from selling Google Apps for ISPs to other ISPs, http://radinfo.blogspot.com/2009/01/google-apps-and-email-for-isps.html

Hi Centaur,

We will make money from selling Google Apps, but the primary reason for us was to put in a robust, spam free, virus free, world-class cloud mail hosting solution, which we believe is superior to mail solutions offered by other ISPs in SA. The partnership is also unique in South Africa in some significant ways that will become clearer through media releases.

@Dave, I can hardly open any international sites, such as speed test.

Any ETA on this issue being resolved?

Are the primary and secondary DNS server adrresses going to change?

Although torrent speeds have improved I see about 30% packet loss when pinging international IPs, the same as it was on Wednesday. Is there a problem with the Neotel link to Seacom again?

Edit: I am also unable to do an international speedtest.

Same here. Torrent speeds are running at about 12-20 K/s. Cant get onto the Speedtest sight. Cant load Gmail. Http is still very slow on international.

Hi Sally

Thanks for your test :D

Please try doing a pathping to an international address such as google.com so we can compare results to the other testers.

ok will do.......I am getting a bit better at this.....:D

theres one to digichilli.com and then google.com

Morning all

It is not a good morning, because I woke up to a zero download for the night. I restarted my router and got a "Authentication failed" That was at 6:00 am. At 7:30 when I left home, no change...So I shut it all down and came to work.

Have mailed support, waiting on a response... This is day two of no service

Dave open the flood gates and lets see where the problems are quicker it might just speed up the problem solving
