Digital TV decoder dilemma drags on

The DA wants the DoC to clarify whether imported digital TV STBs may be used in SA

forget about STB's... local or/and imported!

what about TV's with built-in dtv tuners?? or are they gonna FORCE us to use a STB??

retards

Could be interesting making a comparison between the cost of locally manufactured and imported STBs.

The price-competitiveness of locally made products was another concern, Steyn said.

Not that I care for DTT but there's probably some family members waiting for some tender relief.
Screw the public's pocket seems to be the new ANC slogan, let them eat cake.

I wonder what these clowns get paid.....stalling waiting or a bigger bribe where is digital tv..o I remember its africa

we'll have digital tv, but no way to decode it for nine months? this sounds like they're gonna try pull a fast one - "we switched on digital tv so far ahead of schedule that the stbs aren't ready yet".

I can't remember where the article is now, but there was a rough analysis done and the short is locally manufacturing them is not really going to stimulate the economy as there will be a very short high demand which will then bottom out very quickly. So just as local manufacturers have upskilled for this project the market will disappear. The time to upskill and build facilities is another issue. Much easier and cheaper to get them made in China/Korea/Japan/Indo where they are already making these devices and use the massive savings to stimulate some more sustainable local economy.

In fact all they should do is publish the standard for the STBs and let the manufacturers from everywhere compete, once SABS approved let whoever wants to make them go nuts. Spend the savings on national broadband and rural internet access projects rather.

i'll buy my own stb with feature i wont so thats it.

if the signal isnt encrypted then we can use whatever STB we want... or even the DVB-T2 tuner in the actual TV
