Hi Guys.

I'm asking here because I know there is a world of knowledge on these forums...

Do I need a diplexer when I have the following:
1) Smart LNB
2) Explora 2A - Primary (main bedroom)
3) Explora 3A - Will be secondary in lounge

DSTV support says yes and DSTV store says no.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
bani

No, you don't.. and it would be better to have the 3 as the primary decoder and not the 2.. what you will need though, is a heartbeat cable between the two decoders, as the 2 does not support heartbeat through the smartlnb..

I have the 3 as primary, 2 as a secondary and the newest, non-pvr HD decoder as the 3rd, with just the smart LNB and heartbeat cable between explora 2 and explora 3.. the only thing I had to do, was adjust the frequency, so they are different across all three decoders..

The Explora 1 requires a diplexer.
The Explora 2A and 3A DO NOT require diplexers.
The SLNB type is important though.
The LMX 500 (4 Unicable ports and 2 Universal ports) is temperamental.
The best is the LMX 501 because it supports 3 decoders in XV.
THE LMX 502Z/S only supports 2 decoders.
The decoder with the best PSU is the once that should be used as the Primary, which normally means the 3A.
That one should always be connected to port A on the SLNB.
Because port A is the main power port on the SLNB.
NO separate HB cable is required in this config. The choice of running a HB cable depends on what you want to do with RF.
Note the 3A has NO RF ports.

He doesn't need a heartbeat. The Explora 2 does support heartbeat through the lnb.
Then my explora 2 is running outdated software or hardware, because the moment I remove the heartbeat cable, it moans because there is no heartbeat..

What smart lnb do you have?

What smart lnb do you have?
lmx501..

But, I realised my mistake now.. I, for some stupid reason, thought i no longer had my explora 1.. I do and it's my secondary... Which is why I still need the heartbeat cable..

Or a diplexer instead of the HB cable.
