Because justice and law in South Africa are two very different things. Because a woman can make a scene and cry and say it wasn't her fault, she was dominated by her partner while a man can not. Because maybe two cops with their own media-inspired agenda go to pick up Dirk and decide to beat him to a pulp and say he resisted arrest and then throw him in a holding cell where he gets raped. Dirk, as do I, understood that he was already guilty in the eyes of the public, even if he was innocent. And South Africa's brave cops with their kevlar vests and lethal sidearms and protection from the law know they can do as they please.
Open your ****ing eyes.
Aeron, fair enough, I agree your fears are legitimate. But we're not dealing with a theoretical case here, and there is more to consider than the idealised nameless "accused, who is innocent until proven guilty". Like the fact that he illegally skipped the country. Like the fact that there is photographic evidence of the crimes of which he is accused. Like the fact that there is testimony against him for which he declined his right and responsibility to respond to. Like the fact that the man has had facial plastic surgery to conceal his identity. Do none of these actions ring alarm bells in your head and say, "well, by the weight of all the evidence known to me so far, this man dirk prinsloo is guilty of at least
something...". Those people (myself included) who are judging dirk prinsloo to be guilty are really only expressing a common sense and realistic view imo.
We are not pronouncing sentence. We are not the ultimate judges of dirk prinsloo. We are not going to carry out collective justice on him. that is the job of the court. You cannot hold us responsible if "cops on a media inspired agenda" beat the crap out of him. meanwhile, we have a right to our opinions and to express them, particularly as this matter concerns child abuse.
Dirk has for years declined to present his side of the story. The law, which presumes innocent until proven guilty, also presumed Dirk would appear to defend himself against child abuse charges. Dirk thumbed his nose at the law, and at the authorities looking for him. If Dirk lands up one-eyed and toothless in a SA cell, it would be wrong of the police, but it would also be wrong to assume such an attack was without years of provocation perpetrated by Dirk himself.
I'm sure Dirk will have his day in court in SA. Right after this man who you presume an innocent (contrary to all evidence and (I presume) in the absence of a position where you yourself will likely be required to hear and judge the case), is extradited from another country
where he is currently being charged with bank robbery.
