Disable AI in whatsapp

What annoys me is that they are forcing this crap on us from all angles and calling it Generative AI.

That is a load of bull, I prefer to call it Regurgitative AI as all it does throw up the unsubstantiated crap that it finds on social media or from reading people's public or private correspondence.

It is is a brute force search using a weighted average algorithm mated to a reasonable good Speech/Text language interpreter. Sufficient to pass the Turing test from the 50's but certainly not a modern aptitude test.

True AI will not exist for at least another 2 to 5 years when the real scientists, rather that Billionaire Hackers, release Cognitive AI capable of original thought and linked to a Quantum Computer.

AI is scary now because it is eroding what little is left of our privacy but of itself it is no threat to humanity.
Badly used in the wrong hands however, especial when given access to weapons systems, and it is Terrifying as the AI is not capable of analytical thought so can only follow orders.

Cognitive AI on the other hand will be terrifying because it is capable of analytical, logical and possibly creative thought.

I still want the current AI gone from all my devices but it is a toy compared to what is coming next.

Just my view,
Cheers
Chris

I dont believe anyone who knows the difference thinks its true ai. They are all language models but its easier to say ai instead. True ai is likely still a long way off even though there are rumours abound.
That being said we are no where near the limits of what curent models are capable of.

But what is it doing in whatsapp?
A supposedly encrypted personal communications tool.
Why would I need an AI to tell me how to talk to my wife or a Friend?
It is there for nefarious reasons and they hope that we will embrace it as a gift.
Beware of Greeks bearing gifts as the Trojans discovered at great cost.

Ooooh very evil and nefarious

Nobody needs to use AI to tell us how to talk to someone, therefore in whatsapp, it doesn't do that. How you talk to them, is up to you alone.

Why are you so concerned by something you can simply decide not to use?

Because of the background information it is gathering as you use the app and before the encryption stage.

AI is always listening and in order to know that you are asking it something, and not a contact, it is storing and analysing, your entire interaction with WhatsApp on the Meta Cloud. Something that they could not legally do up until now because of the End to End encryption.

Ignore it bay all means but just be aware that anything you type into Whatsapp is now public knowledge to stored and used for marketing as well as the training of AI agents.

Lol

Nice idea.

This is the response I received after shouting at it a few times:

I apologize for the inconvenience. To remove Meta AI from your WhatsApp, follow these steps:

1. Open WhatsApp and go to Settings (usually represented by a gear icon)
2. Select "Storage and Data"
3. Choose "Manage Storage"
4. Find "Search for Meta AI" and select it
5. Tap "Clear Data"

Alternatively, you can also long-press on the search bar, select "More" (three vertical dots), and choose "Remove" to hide the search bar.

Note that this will only remove the Meta AI search bar from your WhatsApp interface and won't affect your overall WhatsApp experience.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

Yip Meta has now removed the option to remove the AI button etc, so we are screwed, and now its busy scanning one's surroundings when on a video call looking for POI's, anything to link you with a set of parameters... I chucked Whatsapp, I was ok with the initial 'spying' but now with the AI search which is searching outsid ethe ambit of the app (its now like a 2nd google search) and the scanning for info on video etc, is just too much.

About twice I accidentally asked AI something instead of someone else.

No biggie for me. It's not yet bothering me.

Contact Whatsapp here:

Never ceases to amaze that people don't realise they are being tracked and their data collected the moment they turn on their phone, but whatsapp AI scares them......

Location permission... yeah you are right
Location permission does nothing
At a hardware level your GPS is still active

You still consent to the Google / Apple terms and conditions when you boot your device for the first time

I suggest you read the terms and conditions
Nothing on your phone has ever been private

Time to get used to it

More to come/cum:

WhatsApp infuses more AI into group chats

WhatsApp is adding more AI. Baked into the latest WhatsApp beta release for Android is a way to have generative AI make your group chat icons. And strangely enough, this is only for group chat icons - you can't generate images to use for your profile picture on one-on-one chats.

Perhaps that's coming later. For now, if you are in the WhatsApp for Android beta release channel, the latest update should enable the group chat icon generation function as seen in the shots below.

This is of course powered by Meta AI, which is also available inside group chats to "help settle debates", give you "ideas for your next gathering", or "generate fun images".

They forgot to add, "And read then index all your, now unencrypted, chats to use for profiling and targeted advertising."

So much for encrypted end to end secure messaging when an AI can access all of it, and for any members of the group.
And probably any message you send or receive once you have activated the AI.

The AI was not forced on us for our benefit, it is for the benefit of Meta.

Are chats no longer encrypted?

They are and Meta can't read them on the servers. However, he AI is sitting locally on the Phone/PC that you use the app on and, in that environment, all messages are unencrypted so that you, and by extension the AI, can read them.

But it CAN read any unencrypted message in the App, meta may say that they don't read them but technically they can read them so the question becomes "How much are you willing trust Meta?"

The technical restrictions have been removed and that shiny personal data is in their reach - Hello My Precious.

Basically the problem you have is that you don't trust them when they say they don't read them.
