Disabling WhatsApp's two blue tick read receipts on Android

Busy downloading the iOS Whatsapp update now in the hope they've added it.

EDIT: Nope.

Off topic, is there a time limit to the free use of Whatsapp? Annual fee maybe?
(Yes thats right, not everyones on WA)

I don't understand why people would want this feature. It's blatantly sneaky, and if you want to be sneaky with your contacts on WhatsApp, then they shouldn't be on their friends list in the first place.

e.g. If you don't want an irritating "friend" to see that you have read their text, then delete the "friend" off your contacts list, because you clearly don't have time for them if you don't want to show that you have read their text.

I just wish I could remove people I don't want to communicate with on Whatsapp.

And don't tell me to remove their details from my phone (business contacts).
Just remove Whatsapp and download Telegram. You can block individual users in Telegram.

Whatsapp tells you if the person is online and if not when last they were. Which means they either have read the message and chosen to not respond for what ever reason, or they have seen the message but have chosen not to read it yet... either way you being ignored.

The great thing for me now is if i give an instruction to an employee over whatsapp and the ticks are blue, he can't come back and say he didn't get it or didn't read it because then I just call bs.
Blue ticks indicator only means that message had been delivered to the handset. There are many factors preventing user from even being notified.

No.

1 tick means sent to server.
2 ticks sent to handset.
blue ticks message has been read.

As I understand it, 1 tick(grey) = delivered to server.
2 ticks(gey) = delivered to phone
Grey ticks only turns blue, once the message has been opened.

blue ticks message has been read.
It was supposed to work that way, but have been tested with two handsets next to each other. Blue ticks appeared even the recipient was off-line (status on the top was telling the truth - last seen 5 minutes before).

So far our phones seems to work correctly, but if it does not work as it is supposed to, then the function is useless.

It was tested on two iPhones. Nice feature, but unless it is secure communication, you don't know if someone is reading it before message is delivered to your handset.

In other news.

WhatsApp rolls out end-to-end encryption

The most recent update to WhatsApp's Android app includes a surprising feature: strong end-to-end encryption, enabled by default. It's the strongest security any major texting app has offered, even compared with similar tools from giants like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. WhatsApp partnered with Open Whisper Systems for the launch, using open source code to build in the new features. It's unclear when the features will come to iOS, but just reaching WhatsApp's Android users represents a huge step forward for everyday encryption use.

"End-to-end" means that, unlike messages encrypted by Gmail or Facebook Chat, WhatsApp won't be able to decrypt the messages itself, even if the company is compelled by law enforcement. The company will set up the key exchange between users, but only the two users will have access to the conversation itself. There are other end-to-end encryption apps on the market — most notably Cryptocat, Silent Text and Telegram — but with over 600 million users across the world, WhatsApp is by far the largest platform to adopt the system.

iOS users pay for a lot of apps that are free on Android.
But not Whatsapp. New users, and I'm not sure how far back it goes, get it for free these days.

EDIT: Since July 2013 it's been free. Prior to that it went back and forth between $0.99 and free on a fairly regular basis.
