Discovery Bank

OK, stupid question (although apparently there are no such thing).
On your credit card, what is the difference between "Available" and "Balance"?
Available is the whole amount you have and Balance is what you've used aka owe

Thanks for the info, but now I'm more confused. My credit limit is R15 000, my Available is R15 314 but my Balance is R803. What gives?

You paid R803 extra (credit) into your card, then you spent R489 of it, which is still pending, leaving your available balance at R15,314.

is Discovery likely to make their banking available via a browser? I do not like using banking aps and the like on my phone.....I just find the devices too small and fiddly.

On the Discovery credit card, are the monthly required credit card spend levels dependent on one's "salary"? I'm battling to spend enough on my card each month to hit the maximum discounts (40% cashback on HealthyFood, 30% on pts to miles and 10% on fuel). If my "salary" were to decrease, would these monthly spend bands decrease?

In terms of salary deposits, to qualify for rewards you have to deposit R6000pm for gold, R17,500pm for platinum or R30,000 for black. I’m not sure if they enforce this though.

EDIT: Sorry, noticed that salary deposits only affects your dynamic interest rates. Rewards shouldn’t be affected.

Was anyone able to get the Black account without earning the required R800k? Rewards wise, the Gold and Platinum isn't worth a move to Discovery from FNB.

I was asking about the credit card spend required. So let's take points to miles conversion. In order for me to get 20% conversion of exercise points to miles, I have to spend R2500 per month on my credit card. Then it goes up to 22.5% for R5000 spend, and so on, up to the max of 30% for R12500 spend. I want to know if those spend levels are affected by what you say your salary is when you joined Vitality Money, or if they're the same for everyone on a gold CC.

No, your stated salary does not affect those levels.

Seriously looking into moving to Discovery Bank.

With the grocery shops, do you choose which one to use (used to be like that back in the FNB-Discovery credit card days) or can you go to either PnP or Woolies? Same with the petrol stations, can you go to BP and Shell and still receive the rewards or do you need to specify which one you want to use?

For Healthy Food, Healthy Care and Healthy Gear, you shop at your chosen preferred partner for maximum cashback. With fuel you can go to both BP and Shell, cashback stays the same.

Awesome, thanks for the reply!
