Discovery Bank

What do you guys do for hitting your Money goals?
It seems odd they want you to spend more money to show that you are spending responsibly. For example, what if you go grocery shopping once a month (mainly) and then all the other weeks you won't reach your 10 point goal?
I have yoco card machine so pay myself. But only do when it's only goal not met, as I don't reach my drive goal each week

Split up your payments at the till. Fuel also put in smaller amounts. Try pay your cellphone bill online as well instead of debit order

I pay my rates R50 a time over the 4 weeks , plus my normal day to day always get weekly targets

I transfer any income to my credit card account and use that account exclusively for all my expenditures. Does the trick for me.

Two debit orders still go off my savings account, so I leave enough money in there for them.

I loaded the Liberty $T# (stash) app and linked it to my CC. It takes off money automatically every day so I never have to worry about it :) And I’ve saved a fair bit in the process

This looks great, never heard of it before. Do you know if Discovery accepts this for savings points too?

This is part of your R36000 annual tax free allowance. Does the liberty account not have a non tax free savings account?

No unfortunately. It’s a promo thing that actually makes a loss.

How can it make a loss with a guaranteed rate of 3.5%pa? Or are you referring to the JSE Top 40 option?

I’m referring to a loss on liberty side. They don’t use this product to make a profit. Hence no fees charge even on credit card top ups.

I see, thank you.

I don't currently have any savings in a TFSA, everything is fixed. So I can contribute R36,000 pa using my credit card and earn a guaranteed rate of 3.5%pa on the Cash+ option, and earn Vitality Active Rewards points for each top up, and earn Discovery Miles for each top up, and boost my credit card spend to get better dynamic discounts, and get more savings points with Discovery?

This seems too good to be true, there must be a catch somewhere... Or maybe it's a limited thing and they'll end up changing it like Virgin Money did with their horrid new Spot app.

I would rather buy shares than go for a cash route. The return is so much better in the long run.

I'm on a gold discovery transactional account @ R10/month. I want to upgrade probably to gold credit card / suite. Not sure yet. Has anyone done this and can advise on the steps / pain involved?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I recall using the Stash app before. I'll have a look at that again.

Unfortunately I don't have my own yoco machine, but that sounds like a great plan.

I already have some other small things and I'll look at paying for my utilities via Credit card rather and pay the merchant fee they charge me instead of EFT.

I already only use my CreditCard for almost everything except one debit order. Figured out I can pay my Telkom account via card on their website then I don't have the debit order going off either.

Use the easypay mobile app

Easypay doesnt work for Ethekwini anymore. However you can link your discovery card to masterpass and make payment. The QR code to scan is on the online bill section.

Check this https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/index.php?threads/1109252/
I've never paid via a QR code.
So you link to master pass, via which master pass app? I'm too scared to dowload the wrong one. And can u split the payments or does it generate the fill amount due?

I use the absa masterpass app but any of the masterpass app is fine.
You can split the payment.
When you scan the qr code, it just pulls up your account information from there you can input any amount you want and pay it as many times you like. So you can do 50 x R50 payments for example.
