Discovery insure

Yes pse jman, would love the broker's name if he works in Jhb. I see you're in Pretoria.

She doesn't work in Gauteng. KZN I believe. I did everything via email. I was referred by another member on the forum here

They are still experiencing system issues and therefore cant process my claim!!! I don't even have a claim number yet. Managed to speak to someone a bit higher up the food chain. He will go through the calls and resolve it today, manually. Let's see.

Hope they sort it for you. Then consider getting yourself a broker

A broker is just that, a broker. He will look at your requirements and try and find you the best deal, doesn't matter where. In this instance, it was with Discovery.

Hm okay. I thought they were a bit pricey. Anyway, hope you get sorted soon with that claim

Update. After numerous phone calls and eventually speaking to a senior manager, half of the claim has been processed, just waiting for funds to be released. The rest of the claim will be settled once we get the damage reports back on the PC and Laptop.

Discovery Insure is the worst insurance product I have ever come across.
Made the mistake of being with them for a year

Wife is on DI - she has been accident free for 10 years prior to it and they are now hiking her premiums because "she drives reckless" - turns out that leaving/entering her office park she needs to do a sharp u-turn and these incidents twice a day are recorded as "reckless" resulting now in an increase in premiums. DI is complete garbage. No idea why SO insisted on DI for herself - now she is begging to join Santam under home-owners-insurance (which will probably save her 40% on premiums).

I have been with Santam for a good 20 years and never had an issue with anything. They are certainly more expensive then some of the budget-insurances (such as crappy King Price or Outsurance) but they will pay out claims without making their customers feel like criminals.

Interesting... the origional sell with Discovery Insurance was that they would never use the DQ information against premiums or claims, only rewards. Thats obviously changed then.

Yep - the phoned her a few months back and said "We notice that in the mornings/afternoons you accelerate to fast and corner too hard - this could result in penalties". They could not even be bothered to check why (I just remember hearing a number of expletives followed by an email of a Google Earth image).

I also know of a guy who was insured with them for 2 months, had his car hijacked (it was recovered 4 weeks later, but was completely gutted). DI paid the claim, refunded the premiums and kicked the guy off the insurance. OSTI would not assist, as it is completely legal for insurers to kick you off the policy provided that they give notice and refund a certain number of months of premiums.

Never be fooled by gimmicks or low premiums. The entire purpose of insurance is when you make a claim, they need to pay out the full value immediately and without making you feel like a criminal. If they can't get that right, then they are missing the entire purpose of insurance.

Hmm, for the record I was on Discovery Insure, but ended up leaving them because to be honest you have to drive a little recklessly to survive in Gauteng. That said, the months I spent with Discovery and trying to make my driving smoother and more measured definitely made me a better driver.

I think it's very easy to get angry at advice that encourages change (especially in an emotive area like driving where everybody is always a Formula 1-class driver in their own minds).

If your wife is accelerating hard and turning aggressively, then maybe she should just give it a wry smile and either be prepared to concede and moderate her behaviour, or just leave Discovery and take whatever risks come with her driving style.

I agree Discovery is a bit of a blunt implementation of a good idea, but the baseline intention helps them as well as their clients: if by being encouraged to drive more safely you find yourself in fewer accidents, then that's a win-win.

Oh my Effing soul. Claim approved, request for funds to be released, done. Got informed it can take up to 9 days for payment to reflect. What a load of bull!!!!

Glad you're finally sorted. But 9 days :wtf: surely they just need to put through an ETF
