Discovery Vitality [2017]

Awesome thanks guys! So all I need is a heart rate monitor that provides constant monitoring and regardless of whether it is one of the brands on the discovery website or not I can earn points from it? Or am I wrong?

+ANT is also on your phone so your heart rate strap doesn't have to be a bluetooth one. The link them to your S-Health app which will sync to discovery app.

I think there's a defined list of supported devices within Shealth that you can pair with. The Polar app is much more lenient in this regard - i.e, it will pair with most straps

So, since my Samsung Gear S3 wasn't giving me great HR readings. I decided to try the Garmin HR strap paired to my S Health. Great news. I started the Running workout on S Health while paired to the Garmin HR strap. It monitors constantly and I got my full HR points when syncing S Health to Discovery. My friend has 2 Garmin HR monitors available if anyone is interested. PM me. You just need the HR Strap and download S health app for free.

Can you get points for multiple events in a day.

Let's say you do 5000 steps for 50 points and then a 30min cycle workout at 70-79% HR for 200 points.

Will your points for the day be 250 or 200 points?

Nope, only the highest scoring event for the day. So 200 points in this case

I get full points with my gear S3. You need to select running and turn off auto pause and location.

300 points for squash games easy

I tried that. Someone mentioned in an earlier post. Problem is that I only do like 5 to 10 min cardio and 30 to 45 minutes weights.

Hi guys

I am considering getting the apple watch through discovery but i am concerned i wont make my target because i focus more on the weights side of things.
How many minutes of cardio on avg. do i need to do to reach the required HR?
Can you reach the HR level by doing weight training?

Is the points still capped at 900?

Thanks

Um, then you aren't keeping your heart rate high enough to qualify for the points

Um, I get the points quite fine with Garmin HR strap. The gear S3 gives me random readings like 51bpm/64bpm/77pm in the middle of my workouts.

Weights are generally a no no to keep your heartrate up. Too much recovery time inbetween sets.

I do weights on the super circuit but it's the running in between that elevates my heart rate enough to get me the points. That's a 50 / 50 split for a 30 min session.

Still capped at 900 points per week.

I start with a cardio session of 15 minutes at 90% heart rate. I battle to maintain 90% while rowing but I can easily do it on the treadmill. Doing another 15 minutes of strength exercises gives me an average of just over 80%.

Try a few things and see which cardio exercise allow you to maintain a higher heart rate and that should give you some leeway to keep your average above 80%.

The heart rate readings on the Apple watch are fairly consistent in cardio activities but once I start doing strength exercises it can jump between 65 and 135 bpm in 10 seconds. I have to constantly adjust the watch, the strap should give you a higher heart rate due to consistency.

It seems the new Vitality fitness test requires the use of a Watt bike so it seems the upped they requirements a bit from last year.

All tests or just the new hi performance ones?

Normal one as indicated by my biokineticist while discussing the fitness assessment. Waiting for her version of a vitality day before I go.

The entire fitness assessment has changed from the previous years. It's physically easier than the previous years but it's more difficult to fake fitness for more points though.
