Discovery Vitality [2017]

I think by Wednesday afternoon it should be fine because that's when people get their rewards.

Has anyone done the new fitness assessment? Would love to know what they actually do. Pretty sure i will fail most of it :(

What digital cards can be stored in Discovery App? I only have medical and Ster Kinekor

Can anyone explain what this means? No more smoothies?

You'll still continue to earn points for active rewards. You will just reached the points cap for fitness. Meaning fitness points won't count after 30k to your overall vitality points

hazard a guess, you have reached your annual 30K max Vitality points for fitness related 'tasks'.
You can still earn smoothies, but the points you earn for vitality active rewards will not be added to your total vitality points.

Actually, I see thats for a 60-69% workout.

Apparently the 60-69% heart rate workout, falls under the same hidden rule that 5000 steps does. You can only earn a limit of 1000 points per year with those events. Same thing happened to my SO, and thats the answer that came back.

Quick google shows its on this page: https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/individual/vitality-news-jul16-earn-more-active-points

So from here on out, you need to do either 10 000 steps a day for 100 points, or 70-79% Heart Rate workout for 200 points, or go to the gym for 100 points.

Let’s get stepping

You can earn 50 Vitality points for tracking between 5 000 and 9 999 steps in a day. You can also earn 100 points for a 30+ minute workout where you are able to maintain 60-69% of your maximum age-related heart rate.

These activities recognise that important first step for many of our members who are just starting out. For this reason, these points will contribute to your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goal, but will be subject to a cap of 1 000 points per year towards your Vitality Status. This is to encourage you to continue enhancing your physical activity levels and continue to enjoy the benefits of Vitality Active Rewards.

ps. note you still get the points for active rewards, just not for vitality points which counts towards reaching silver, gold, diamond levels.

Ah I see they added the one line.. but yah, I wonder why they don't publish the hidden limits per category.. it kinda sucks as you won't know about it till you hit it. I just hope there aren't limits on 80% Hr, gym visits & 10k steps as these effect my calculations on getting to 90k. The sucky thing is that because they don't publish caps(when I last checked) I have a slight fear of them slapping g on caps when people get closer. Guess the old, get your points asap strategy is still the best.

So far I only hit the 5k steps this year 2 weeks ago, so now just 10k steps when I'm not going to gym (was the plan anyway).

Ps.

The get your HR to 80% for 30min is going to backfire big time in the coming months due to the speed at which you need get there.. go to gym and watch how quickly people try and get this. The difference between this and e.g. Cycling for 40km and avg hr being > 80% is that the ramp up and rest periods make it possible. Will be an interesting case study to see the cardiac case load for Discovery Health before intro, post, and now that other events are removed making the regular cardio incidence the norm.

Thanks all for the answer. Second question. I often get a code invalid when they enter/scan the code at Kauai.. Think I've had about 4 the last 3 weeks..

Anybody else have these issues?

Had 2 issues.

1. Yesterday, when I went to get a vida, the Active rewards screen showed (1) available reward in red, then when I went into it, there was no option to select, as if I already used my reward.

2. Today, the reward showed again, but had to scan it twice before the wiCode was accepted as payment. Fixed it by closing the application and start over to get the reward. Looks like the rewards are removed from my app in realtime, as soon as I used it as payment, which is an improvement from how it worked last year.

So a bit annoying.

I feel like I'm really getting shafted on my points every week at the moment. Two weeks in a row I went for my run as normal and it didn't give me the heart rate; I ran hard so I can't see how I wasn't getting over 80% HR. But maybe it's my watch reading faulty. Another week I got my points, then it showed it as failed for no reason. I complained, showed them the data and they gave it to me but only with 1 reward. Getting pretty miff about all this...

What device are you using?

That's weird. I use the same and mine works fine. What kind of workout are you selecting on the watch? And do you go into the workout itself on the phone and verify that your ave HR was indeed over 80%

Yea the watch is reading wrongly, but not all the time. I think maybe once I didn't have it strapped tightly enough because it was avg 119bpm which is absurd for a half hour run, and this morning... eh I dunno what happened, it gave me 70-79 HR so only 200 points.

Then sounds like it's the fault of the watch. I've also had issues with it not picking up my HR properly. Try turning the watch around so that it's reading on the inside of your wrist

Didn't get the full 20,000 points for the Vitality Health Check I did this week as my cholesterol was a bit elevated, so I lost out on 5000 points :/

When I went to pharmacy there was a non-smokers declaration to sign. Insist on it!

Ok so I did sign this at my check yesterday. In fact they emailed it, and I signed it and gave it to them. But I see now that the pharmacy didn't include it, so I missed out on 5000 points for that *grin*.
