Discovery Vitality in 2016

Wait until you do get superfit... apparently it's not so easy to raise your HR then.

No, it just means who have to go more intensely or faster. It becomes easier to exercise more intensely for long periods if you are fit. Gym can be more hard because you can recovery quickly between sets. Pause the watch.

Do olympians race at 40 bpm because they are super fit? Or 200bpm because they can do high intensity races?

For anyone using HealthyGear or HealthyFood cashbacks, you might want to read this:
- In December 2015 I purchased 2 Polar A360 at Sportsmans' and expected that I would get about R800 cashback in January (based on 25% cash back reward)
- In February 2016 I then queried when the cashback will be processed, only to be told that my HealthyGear card had expired in March 2015 and they will not pay.
- It turned out that Discovery disabled all my cashback cards (HealthyGear, HealthyFood and HealthyCare) in March 2015 without being able to explain why.
- It has taken the last 3 months to get my HealthyGear recalculated (they initially wanted to only provide cashback on this years 10% bonus and not last year's 25%) and credited

When doing spot-checks on HealthyFood/-Care I have now also found that their calculations are not accurate and not transparent - and it is impossible to resolve as they insist on tills-slips (does anyone keep grocery slips?)

Discovery makes it generally very difficult to process claims and payouts even on a classic comprehensive are nowadays a joke. The Vitality programme is not thought through at all and people wanting to gamble it, will continue to do so.

The Discovery Vitality website would benefit me greatly if it provided a mechanism to show how the cashbacks are calculated and the individual items that contributed to the total . . .

You are asking for transparency from a company that has been progressively ****ing over their customers for the past 5 years? Shame on you and your reasonable requests.

There is a cashback statement for the healthyfood. Lists every item, date and amount it originally cost, as well as whether it was from pnp or woolies. Is that not enough to work it out? Can literally copy/paste into excel and work out the cashback.

Has no-one tried using Promotion of Access to Information to get the data. It is relevant to you, as you are using it.

Where do you find this?

^^ correct.

Just worked mine out for Feb 2016. Seems correct to me.

The healthygear statements are not nearly as detailed sadly.

I wish they would link the rewards for Vitality Drive into the app, so I could save to my wallet on my iPhone :(

Healthy gear is limited to R2000 per month. I also got that surprise the beginning of the year.

I see vitality's FB rating is now at 2.6 stars

*Makes me warm and fuzzy inside*

It needs to go lower!!! I would rate them every day a 1 if if I could until they revise the heart rate crap and making me spend 2 grand on useless trackers!! And now I'm spending another 2 grand on doctor's bills due to overdoing it, granted if it's found I had a genetic disposition to issues that's not their fault... or perhaps it might be?

R4000 for a family on Vitality. PLus also capped by your Vitality points earned at that point in time.

How did you get to that part of the website, it's the first time I've seen it? Is available through the menus?

It is.
@https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/
(note, must be logged in)
-> browse the menu 2nd from the top, hover the mouse over "Vitality" to get the popup menu.
-> 2nd column from the left look for:
Nutrition and weight management
HealthyFood at Pick n Pay and Woolworths <-- click on that

Then scroll down and look for:"View your cash back statement" <-- click on that

Hi, thanks man, got it (in Chrome). Strangely, did not get the "View your cash back statement" option in IE.

https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/...ashback-summary?year=2016&benefit=HealthyFood

You can also view last years by just changing the year in the URL

Thanks for this! I'd also never seen it before.

Along the same lines, is it possible to get a DiscoveryMiles statement - so far the most detail I can get is a breakdown of base points and booster points, but it doesn't actually tell me which transactions were used to contribute to the booster points (and at what level of multiplier).

Hah. I'll run faster, and push my heart rate up that way. :)

(Seriously, I use my HRM while running to determine how hard I'm pushing, so that I can gauge whether I should speed up or slow down).

The problem with the HR and intensity thing (aside from the gross misconceptions about it being hard to raise HR when fit) is that HR is not a good way to measure the intensity of strength type exercises. Especially because fit people recover quickly between sets. Crossfit is at least a bit more dynamic. Unfortunately Discovery is essentially forcing HR monitoring - and this does not work so well to reward strength training (although much better than using card swipes to reward cardio-type exercise).
