Dishonored - Steam - Crash - !!! HELP !!!

Would like to play this old classic.
Windows 10.
All other games work 100% fine.

I tried "-windowed" mode which works, but the moment I switch to fullscreen it crashes.

I have tried the following solutions but none of them works when switching back to fullscreen:

It says this immediately after I try to launch the game: result failed at v:\dishonored\unrealEngine3Patch\Development\Src\D3D9Drv\Src\D3D9Device.cpp:701 With error D3DERR_INVALIDCALL It simply goes to the black screen to launch the game, then does this. I have updated my graphics card...

Looks like a good old graphics driver, direct3D issue.

I'd look into:

- DXDiagostics
- Check the visual c++ libraries
- Attempt a downgrade of a graphics driver and see what happens?

Obviously assuming done a full uninstall and re-install to a separate location?
 
That looks like a Graphics issue, have you updated drivers? Do you have directx installed and updated, did you verify files in your steam install?
But generally ssomething for directx 9 isn't being found, could the game run in DX10?

Yap. Installed to C drive as well. Makes no difference.

I can probably try an older Graphics Driver, although that would not be ideal as I do run other games and software as well.

Have done full uninstall, deleted all left over files and config files.

It crashed. Then I updated to the latest driver for the GTX1070, still crashed. Can probably try install DirectX 9.
 
Go look in the config files and change it to DX10.
Config-> DishonoredEngine.ini

Under System Settings, search for:
"AllowD3D10=False"
and change to:
"AllowD3D10=True"

Tried compatibility mode? I think there is a option to set directx level. Or look for a cmnd argument to force the code base, add it as a startup argument to the steam game if possible.

Whats' also maybe a issue, delete your config files for the game , so its like a fresh install. Sometimes those files carry issues and a normal re-install DOESN'T overwrite old settings/save directory's.

Thanks I've deleted the config files as well.
I tried compatibility mode. Not working.
Trying @Lupus ' suggestion above now.
 
Alternatively just use windowed mode but set the resolution to your normal full screen resolution then its prettymuch there

Apparently it can be caused by steam cloud wtf. Look at crashes on
