Hi everyone
Does anyone know if the Huawei E620 3G PCMCIA data card will work in the DLink DIR-451 3G router?

I have been trying my best for the last week to get one of these cards to work with the DIR-615 with very limited success (effectively have to disable all the routing, dhcp, firewall etc and use it as a hub with the internet being an ICS connection from one of the client PCs on the LAN side... )

I am considerring trying to exchange it for the 451 if that would work (and pay double the price...)

Thanks & regards,
zaDiver.

thanks for the quick respons DJ_jyno!

I can only hope it is worth the extra R700.....

Cheers,
zaDiver.

Have you considered a router with an integrated modem like the B970 or the Option Globersurfer? Will give you better speeds (tower permitting) as well as HSUPA.

Jip, the DIR451 works well with E620 card modem. Before the B970 came out, thats what I used for 3G/HSDPA internet at the office. U can use a pointing antenna to plug into the 620's antenna connector to boost HSDPA signal.
What's also nice about the DIR 451 is the USB port, so if u don't want to use the E620, or upgrade to a newer USB modem like E220/272 or the newer stick modems then u can just use the usb modem to connect.
The standard DIR451 firmware works well, but the newer firmware from DLINK site, is better, more options

well - forked out the money for the 451, but cannot get it to connect using my Vodacom 3g/E620:o. Any pointers on how to set up the thing?

Try updating your E620 firmware to the version available here.

That firmware works perfectly on the Vodafone (red) E620 and will enable USSD commands and unlock your modem too.

Thanks ginggs - downloaded the Firmware, and will be updating it in a minute or so...if I'm offline for long....you know that the modem went *poof* .....:D

I am back online and....nope...the e620 did not go *poof*...but it isn't connecting from the router either:sick:....

Help please....

Got it working - finally...

WHOOHOOOOooo.....

I am now surfing via my DIR-451 over the E620 with Vodacom 3G!:D

I will post here a sensored summary of what to do to get it to work in my case: (The swearing relieved the frustration somewhat, but did not really contribute towards resolving the issue)

1) Upgrade the E620 firmware as suggested by [ginggs] (thank you!)
2) My DIR-451 still has Firmware Version: 1.02_WW , Thu, 17 Apr 2008
3) Set the router settings as follow:
Country: South Africa
ISP: Vodacom
Card: Vodafone E620
Pin Code: <your sim's pin>
Username: <blank>
Password: <blank>
Server name: <blank>
Dial number: *99***1#
Authentication Protocol: Auto(PAP + CHAP)
APN: internet << this is the one I have been missing...
Auto-Reconnect: Disabled
Keel-alive fields are disabled

4) I'm sure I dont need to say this;), but please remember to set the admin password to something other than <blank>.

[other possibly unrelated information]

4) I set mine up on a netword with another 5-port switch, but I'm pretty sure that is not necisary. I just used it to ensure that the rest of my network continue functioning.

5) I enabled DHCP on the router and got clients to fetch their IPs from the router.

6) Reserved the IPs for the static clients on the router.

Well....now time to play with the wireless setup...
Thanks a million to all who helped and also morkhans and Elf1nDrak3 for your contributions to get me up and running! (on another thread by nictron): "Settings for D-Link DIR-451 3G Router".

Cheers for now, Merry Christmas and happy(safe) surfing!

 You were gone a long time, I was getting worried you'd bricked your modem!

Thanks for all the info about your setup, it will be of help to others.

Now its my turn. I can't get it to work with my Option GT 3G+ HSDPA.
I've tried all the firmware updates for the router on the Dlinktech site. I think it might be the card though, I can't seem to update the firmware with the latest one from Vodacoms site. Any ideas?

Just an update.
Download the latest firmware for the dlink 451 v1.20b32. Then on the router setup page choose country and isp as none. Then you have a full list of all supported devices.
Set dial number to *99#, APN to "internet', keep alive to 600 and keep-alive-server as 196.25.1.200

My 3G card isn't connecting yet but things are at least looking like it might be resolved.
Just waiting for a followup email from Dlink now. I'll be back. :D

:edit Update on the datacard. The reason I can't do a firmware flash is that apparently my cards got the newest firmware 0_o.

I didn't get a reply from Dlink again so I called them. The guy told me to disable pin verification on the card and that made the card atleast start flashing the blue LEDs instead of the offline red and blue LEDs but it still won't connect. I tried calling again but he was no longer available.
Something tells me this won't be resolved.

Dlink support seems to have disappeared. Anyhow did some research, it appears that my card is not compatible with the router. Even though its listed in the above mentioned compatibility test. Other people with the same card had the same issue.

So if you have the Option Nozomi GT G+ EMEA don't buy a Dlink router, you'll just be wasting your money.
I'm going to have to buy a new USB modem and just hope it works.
