Do I really need a Deye/Sunsynk inverter or can I get an Axpert type inverter?

We currently use max 15KWh per day.
We have a solar geyser and cook on gas only.
We use a gas heater in winter.
Our peak consumption over the last 6 months was 6060W for short periods. Typical peaks are around 4260W

We currently use a 720w Mecer inverter with a 12V 120Ah Lifepo4 battery running all the lights, router, TV and PC. It handles Stage 6 loadshedding without a problem. I have a backup battery for when things get worse. No solar yet.

I want to upgrade to an 8KW inverter with a battery and later add panels. I do not want to feed back to the grid ever.
All my loads will be on the essential side. No need for a current transformer and fancy power management settings.

What do you think I should buy? Any advice will be appreciated.

I bought a Kodak (Axpert clone) in 2020 - its still going strong. Has 12x 410w panels connected to it and 10kWh of battery storage.

If you have the money go with sunsynk/deye.

I have my sunsynk 8kw inverter and it doesnt skip a beat.

Can view system here almost 2 years old now.

The big benefit of the Deye is that you can "undersize" the system slightly to only run your essentials during a power outage, but still get benefit from excess solar energy by pushing it to non-essentials such as a geyser or a pool pump. Those loads are generally not backed up, but if you want to save on energy costs, being able to push excess energy their way is a great way to increase the system's ROI.

If you don't have large loads like geysers or pumps, cook with gas, don't use the oven etc, then there is very little reason to get one. I'd put the savings away, or invest it in more panels with a cheaper inverter. There are many reliable inverter brands out there that aren't Deye - good Axpert machines, Growatts and Luxpower come to mind - most at half the cost of a Deye. And they'll all keep your lights on and push solar to your essential loads when available.

And if you do not , what would you recommend?

imo you buy what you can afford , if you can't afford those

You buy an inverter that fits the budget

ie axpert with solar and you will get the money back over time and eventually if it ever packs up the savings will have you in a better situation to replace it

ie i would take an axpert with panels ,instead of only sunsynk and no panels due to all the money spent on sunsynk

There are even hybrid axperts that can do the grid push function ie the synerji i have has that function

You can add a change over breaker to add geyser mid day to essential and swop it back after dark to eskom

In process of adding panels

Yeah, I'm pretty certain the push back is far more common these days than folks think. Was looking at a axpert a while ago and sure it had the function, just a lot of reports of high noise when the inverter is in grid failover.

Yea since they don't measure the push back to just meet your load, they push back what ever you panels is producing

ie all or nothing

90% of the inverters in SA come out of the same shop just with different branding:

All comes down to the support and ease of use at the end. That's why a lot of people choose Deye/Sunsynk.

There are a lot of other Deye rebrands but they all have different firmware which are not all equal.

Also helps when there is a large community using the same product, so you know if you have a question it's likely been answered already or somebody will be able to answer it.

I have a Kodak 7.2 OG with 10KWh batteries and 6.2kW PV. I use 6 to 8 kWh on average per day and been full off grid for 3 months now.

All electric. No gas anywhere.

Have a Kodak 5kw. Almost 2 years now. Works fine, haven't had any issues.

If I'd be in the market now, I'd get the luxpower 5kw.

Just realized there is a big gap on youtube re Inverter reviews
Esp regarding SA Brands/Loadshedding

Now only if I did not have a full-time job...
This guy does a lot of reviews on the Chinese inverters: https://www.youtube.com/@WillProwse

US-based, but a lot of it is still applicable. There is definitely a gap for a SA focused channel though.

Sol-Ark is the big US Deye-type inverter brand, there are some Youtube videos on these also and are pretty well regarded overall.

I can not watch that guy's video's. The way he talks just rub me the wrong way :D

Has some odds and ends but not really a full range. Guess we need someone with access to local brands as it can become costly to "buy".
