DO NOT USE CYBERSMART!

Bare in mind serious downloaders also have to keep ratios in consideration so a fair bit goes towards uploading too.

I work from home and require a vpn connecting me to the office. Use around 2gigs a day during office hours. Cybersmart is a weekend and 1am-8am solution.

i heard about them when i first wanted adsl back a few years ago. Only heard bad things, and i never ever even bothered to look back at them again. Even after reading abit of their user policy i thought WTF?

Even if they are 50% cheaper, i wont ever buy a service from them.

Aah, so I am not the only person...

I recently moved house, and now 4 months later, I still have problems with the Telkom / Cybersmart deal...

Firstly, Telkom couldn't install a new line because there was no numbers available.
I asked them to move my existing number then, seeing that I moved about 1km further (same exchange).
Telkom came to my house and installed a new telephone number and activated ADSL(which I did not ask for).
Then Cybersmart activated my ADSL on the line.
I paid both Telkom and Cybersmart for the circuit rental.
Finally 2 months and 18 days later my ADSL was working at the new house on a new telephone number.

I once sent an email and decided to copy Laurie in the email, and his response was not what I expected from a CEO of an ISP... quite rude tbh...

Now during this process, I spoke to Warren, and I have to agree his is so rude. Also, their Support centre consists of like 3 people, I always speak to the same people. When you send in a ticket, they reply back 2 - 3 days later... this is not acceptable...
And when they reply, it looks like a Grade 3 person wrote the email... every heard about grammar and spelling and at least being nice.

I sent an email about my incorrect billing, and got something back like "no your wrong we did your billing right becos you pay pro rata"... I mean....... seriously......

I always say, you don't rate a company by how good their services work, but by how they handle the situation when things DO NOT work... So Cybersmart is not a GOOD ISP because their ADSL works when it's on, but they're a terrible company when it comes to resolving issues whens they happen...

So now, 4 months later, and Telkom has 3 addresses of mine on their account.... one is my old address, and the other 2 I have never heard of or lived at... they have completely thumb sucked some address... 4 months later and they STILL cannot get it right... apparently my house does not exist... WTF???? And now Cybersmart has to request my address change because they have the ADSL circuit???????

aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... i get upset every time I think about this....

/rant

Damn, that's ****ed up. I am never signing up with CyberSmart and it seems like they at least have to get rid of this 'Warren' guy.

Well, I FINALLY faxed my cancellation letter and a copy of my ID to Cybersmart yesterday at 2.30pm. I faxed it to the 2 numbers provided (0876250003 and 0214610015) so there should be no excuses about not having received it. What a mission when you don't have a fax machine! So lets see if they honour it.......

I have specifically asked Cybersmart NOT to cancel my ADSL line but to hand it back to Telkom. I was advised to do this by another ISP otherwise you end up having to apply for the line from Telkom again and without internet while waiting. I have had enough down time, I don't need any more.

Good to see there are some happy Cybersmart customers out there. I used them on the recommendation of a friend living in Sea Point. My friend has not had any problems with them. One positive about starting this forum discussion.....my ADSL has been a lot better. No lost connection this week. Make what you want of that. I am happy to leave a company that does not provide the service I pay for and treats me with disrespect when I complain about it.

Essentially they do cancel it, you have to re-apply with Telkom once the line is released.

I received an email from Cybersmart saying they are going to charge me (R299) at the beginning of next month for November. I have sent a return email to [email protected] and reminded them that i have cancelled on the 30th September - which gives them 30 days notice by fax as requested by them.

From Cybersmart:
"Click here to find out what you will be billed for on the 1st of next month. Please ensure that the information displayed is correct. Should there be any alterations you wish to make , EMAIL CHANGES TO [email protected] ."

Email to Cybersmart:
"I sent you a cancellation request by fax on 30th September 2010 at 2.30pm to fax numbers 0876250003 and 0214610015. Please DO NOT charge my account on the first of next month as this email from you states. I am documenting this on mybroadband.co.za at the following URL, as I did with the cancellation request. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/269091-DO-NOT-USE-CYBERSMART!/"

Lets see if they honour their own cancellation process.

In fairness to Cybersmart, I must point out too that my internet has been almost perfect since i started this thread. I do not claim it is because of this thread, just that my internet is much better. However, I still choose to cancel my account based on the treatment and lack of support I got from Cybersmart.

My line wasn't cancelled, just transferred to telkom... as the telephone bill proved.

Always? I swapped over in April. They told me that after the 30 days from when I cancelled I would have to goto Telkom and re-apply for the line when CS released it.

Took two trips to Telkom and some annoyed phone calls to get that right.

There are always 2 sides to a story. I would like to hear what Laurie got to say about Fudzy's line.

Your're welcome to. I'll try find the mails. With regards to the 30 days it was the notice I to give CS to cancel.

It's not that I don't believe you or anything, it's just that I've been using Cybersmart in the past and most of my clients used them as well. Whenever any of us had to cancel a service, the line was always transfered back to Telkom by default without any hassles.

At what point?

Well after finding out that TRL Tech are using Cybersmart's network to offer uncapped accounts, I've changed most of my clients over to TRL Tech. A few clients decided to change to Mweb. Anycase, all went good without any problems.
