okay so I was drunk, reversed into a guy, and fraudulently obtained roadworthy and engine clearance

yes its all coming into place

Hmmmm...

So a bit of a weird situation a friend of a friend backed into my parked car bending my rear fender and rear wheel arch and scratching it a bit. He was wildly intoxicated when it happened and thus when I suggested to call the cops he was scared he would lose his chances at a law degree ontop of being charged with a DUI, so as a nice guy who weighed the amount of money he has spent at a university law degree versus the cost of fixing my car I agreed

So he doesn't have insurance and this other bloke drove into him. Can he claim from the other guy's insurance?

No, he has 5 cars (which may or may not be road-legal) that are fully paid off. He doesn't have insurance and he may or may not have cut off the other bloke, and then reversed into him. His lawyer figures this will be an easy payout.

At least that's the situation as I understand it so far.

Okay, but I mean generally in a situation like that, not him specifically. Can one only claim from your own insurance, or can you directly approach the other guys'?

I've directly approached the other guys before, because I did not want to pay excess. Took ages and was way too much hassle. I recommend, if you are insured, claim from your insurance and let them fight to get your excess back.

His cars are investments. They are all classics, that are worth more now, than they were when they were new. Historical significance and all...

4 of them are unreliable, modded piles of ****, so he moves between whichever one has the least issues on the day.

The fifth is of course the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991, and that spends most of it's time in a museum for the world to appreciate it's historical significance.

True, but what I don't get is how come you can't put a BMW E36 318i with an M badge on the boot lid with go faster stripes over the bonnet, roof and boot lid too on comprehensive insurance with option for a rental, at R222 or less per month?!

I have said it before and I will say it again, I am slow and stupid, so explain that to me.

If it is modded and in great condition, I would think that he would like to drive the cars daily to get full enjoyment out of it. Why mod if you not going to reap the benefits...just a question...
