That is in essence what has happened yes. They acknowledged their market value was wrong and accepted mine as correct knowing full well a court would attach more value to my opinion backed up with credible evidence versus what is stated in their "book".

Or it was just easier to pay you and be done with it.

So you eventually got R95K for the Monza? I can see why you were driving erratically trying to write it off then, well done.

That road is always filled with people who suddenly realize the right lane is turn only, then force themselves into the left lane where there is often no space for them.

Hectic rage reaction though.

I think it's time I bought a Monza and got some chop to ride into the back of it.

Not gonna happen unless it's a Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of The Year 1991.

If I got R95k for a Monza I would sustain a crash as well

remember that they pay me a settlement figure and I get to keep the car

I actually just sold the car, deal agreed to and the buyer left my flat now. he is picking the car up tomorrow (or later today if you want to be technical)

Including the sale of the wreck, I'm walking away with R120 000, not bad for a 25 year old uninsured vehicle I paid R65 000 for five years ago.

Sorry... I still don't buy that they settled on your monumentally ridiculous figure.

You can claim whatever you think the vehicle is worth, they have their valuation and that is what they will pay, if you want more you would have to take it to court.

No, but balance of probability and legality etc is kind of on my side in terms of not believing an insurance company will pay your ridiculous "valuation" figure.

Look up the law, I am entitled to replacement value, go do your research.

That you are... which would be the value that they would insure the car for (R15k as per your own post iirc)... not the value you seem to THINK it is worth.

replacement value = purchase another car + modifications required to achieve the same spec as car I had

If I were to purchase a car on the open market, no way would I pay 15k for one, and the modifications alone in terms of parts adds up to over 100k.

Keep trolling, I wrote a four page report that I was prepared to go to court with, they acknowledged I was right and agreed to settle. You can say I'm lying, its fine for me, I don't feel the need for instant gratification.

just to put things into perspective

I sold the car last night in its written off state for much more than the market value they said my car is worth.

Courts attach value to evidence, and if I can sell my written off car for more than the value of what an insurance company thinks it is, surely the evidence proves the insurance company wrong.

The mind boggles! I paid R20k LESS and got a mint condition Astra

yeah and I paid R65k for the car originally (including all modifications), and I effectively got 120k back for it, so who do think is making better decisions on cars, you or me?
