I think is an human right because than we as humans dont know what is happening around the world as in today times everything is going via media e.g. tweeter, facebook, youtube, whatsapp and more. How can you be updated if you dont have internet because to have a phone and use it you need internet.

Ofcourse having access to the internet is a basic human right, the government is taking a step in the right direction to help households and the youth the opportunity to apply for jobs.

It's not a human right per say but basic access could contribute to upliftment through education, job searches, news, etc.

yes, internet access for everyone is important! That mean any place in the world. Human right to internet depend on certain things. for free access: it mean free access to information for example news, education, goverment sites, and basic communication - for example whatsapp, facebook-lite (data saving mode), and maybe 50MB data per day free.
For the users who are willing to pay for their internet no restriction to internet and pay what you get. Would also like the option that there must be no region-block on for example netflix with certain shows, region block on youtube and a lot of other websites without to use VPN to bypass the region-block...

The only thing I learned from this thread is that people have no idea how to even think about the concept of what is a basic human right.
It is stuff you already have that doesn't require the work of anyone else.
A human rights violation is when that right is taken away under forces.
If you need to talk about dignity and internet access you are completely lost.

This would also allow for provision of Internet to be forced in countries that boycott it or disable it during war time as it is a basic right, and hence more liberties can be taken to provide it.

Not a right, no. But definitely needed in today's digital age. The powers that be CAN make it much more affordable though.
So that is something else us tax payers will have to fund!
The government can't even ensure our right to LIFE, which is embedded in our constitution, as they are not doing enough to stop illegal immigrants, spiraling violent crime and a murder rate increase of over 20%. So, NO, I do not think that free access to the Internet is a basic right.

ACCESS to it may be a basic human right.....but NOT getting it for free.
The problem in SA (and other countries) is that far too many people believe that they are entitled to receive everything for free and are intellectually incapable of rationally thinking about how unsustainable that is.
If religion is the opiate of the masses, promises made by the ruling putty and the EFFoff putty is the Tik that their supporters are addicted to.

Access to the internet is not considered a basic human right and never will be.
Making and receiving calls which forms apart of communication should be replaced with that statement rather than data usage.
Internet access can be helpful but it's not used by everyone. Some people still do their work the old fashioned way and use landlines along with magazines.
