Only reading thread now, so don't know what later responses are , but I shudder to think what the costs have been for the guest that is recuperating at my home .she has been in and out of hospital and is currently again in high care. Fees in the last year was over a million. Don't know what the current bill is. 4 specialists see her daily. Currently near renal failure and it's not fun. She would not have got this care in state - that's for sure.well lets see, the last claim I had involved a month of hospitalisation and 4 or 5 months of after care, the total medical bill came to R300k
my savings in my medical aid already is over that, so I'm going to take my chances
my thoughts on pensions was also described as daft on this forum, and now years later my thoughts are starting to manifest
Waiting to see what this bill is going to be.
Simply put, having your own fund can make sense if you are young, but God forbid, you have an accident , or pick up cancer or something unexpected. I heard some some cancer drugs cost R250k a month (not that most medical aids even cover a portion of it)
Good luck to you.
PS. I say this knowing all insurance is a grudge purchase.
