Sounds like the same type of daft thinking you exhibit in other threads. Hope you have a couple of mil in your own "fund"I made the difficult decision this year to rather cancel my medical aid all together.
I'm just going to save the money myself and create my own fund so to speak.

Cool. Now do it twice. ie, do two (or three) trips to the hospital for R300k each. Do the savings still add up?well lets see, the last claim I had involved a month of hospitalisation and 4 or 5 months of after care, the total medical bill came to R300k
my savings in my medical aid already is over that, so I'm going to take my chances
my thoughts on pensions was also described as daft on this forum, and now years later my thoughts are starting to manifest

A R300k bill 10yrs ago is probably double if not triple that now for the same admission. The last claim was over ten years ago and it wasn't me but a dependent.
Try harder, add probabilities to your scenarios.
Even when I presented my case to Bonitas they couldn't provide a reasonable response.

I would only be comfortable without medical aid if I had 1bar in the bank, even then it may not cover some dire situations. Granted you can join a medical aid ASAP after a severe medical condition surfaces and hope the 1 bar tides you over the 12 month exclusion period that joining a medical aid entails.
Indeed considering once you are dead or severely impaired your journey is over, medical aid is a significant hedge against that eventuality.probabilities...

I don't really want to.Try harder, add probabilities to your scenarios.
I get this funny feeling they didn't want to try either.Even when I presented my case to Bonitas they couldn't provide a reasonable response.
I don't understand what you mean. Probabilities are exactly that... Things that are highly likely (to even, almost certainly) going to happen.probabilities...

You say probabilities, one unfortunate car accident that may not even be your fault is all it can take.
Further to that if you are in a bad accident they will take you to a government hospital if you have no medical aid and are not compos mentis and able to provide the necessary financial surety to a private hospital so they can admit you.
@saturnz how much do you save a year in med aid fees?
you seem triggered given all these responses
it's my decision, I haven't advocated others do the same
what do you expect to gain from this exchange

Some insight into your reasoning behind the decision to ditch medical aid and do the whole savings thing. I thought there might be a compelling argument along with some mathematical logic buttttt I don't think I'm gonna find either here.what do you expect to gain from this exchange
Not at all bro. Hence the :

Before ditching medical aid, what were your monthly contributions?I already gave sufficient insight for this forum, I am not advocating others do the same, in which case you may have a point.
but once again, I'm under nobody's interrogation on this forum
