Do you have friends?

Well a women friend gets a bit to emotional to some extent.Besides having female as a best friend will get you in hot water with any women you dating imho

I had to dump a girlfriend who got super jealous of my friendship with another girl (had been close friends for 5 years -nothing sexual). My gf kept freaking out and eventually burst into tears and told me to "just admit it!" -that I was cheating. She showed her true freakazoid colours and unfortunately I had to kick her ass to the curb. Avoid jealous women!

Picard - Is your surname by any chance Picard? Because my sister is dating a guy with the surname Picard...

I don't know.

If your sister is dating a guy named Picard then I sincerely hope that my name is Picard. That is if your sister looks like Kerry McGregor when she was 20 years old.

I don't understand the whole Social, friendship, thing. I can name my friends one one hand, with out using all of the fingers. They live the all over the place and we chat maybe once in like a month. My brain just can't understand why anybody goes out with people they mostly can't stand just coz they are afraid of being alone. Plus your probably better off alone anyway coz then you "friends" can't disappoint you.

My opinion anyway but then again i am an antisocial, Misanthropic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misanthropy), loner so i might be a bit bias.

There are two reasons why having friends is important to me (or would be, if I had any):
1) to do things with - go see a movie, out for a drink or dinner, get their opinion on your latest hairstyle, that kind thing
2) to have someone to talk to when you're down, to have christmas when you don't have family around, to not be all alone in the world

Now (2) can be admirably filled by a spouse/long term relationship; if you don't have one of those, though, it's even more important to have at least one good friend so you don't grow old alone. Oh, which brings me to reason number 3 - to have someone notice when you die of old age!

His surname is Picard.. Is your surname Picard?

I was serious dude. I missed a couple of classes, even flunked one subject in my varsity career but never fell behind. I also have a fear of failure and felt that hanging out with friends would bugger up my prospects for the rest of my life so I made the "smart" choice and studied instead.

I did much the same - I was serious about my studies. Met boyfriend, spent time on boyfriend and studies, graduated MSc, split up with boyfriend, was left with no particular friends and having used up my prime opportunity to meet people and make friends.

I've made some friends from work, but you tend to not keep in touch when one of you finds a new job.. also not into clubbing or church (although I wish I was, sounds like church is a great way to meet people). I do Tai Chi, and take some adult ed classes, but most (all) people there aren't really in my age range!

My favourite quote about not dying alone... from Gilmore Girls, when Lorelei tellks Sookie she's engaged to Luke ans Sookie gets all excited and says:

You're not gonna die alone. I mean, somebody will *be* there! Somebody will know! Somebody will find the body, and call the police!

I love it - it's exactly what I'm afraid of, if I never get married! :)

Come to think of it i have been alone for 3 years now.Damn i am pathetic.:DAll i ever do is computer computer computer.:(
Dude that is sad. I was like that about 8 years ago. Lived on my pc, lost touch with everyone except one mate who I saw about every 3/4 weeks. I just didn't like people much at the time but it was my own issues. Then I got a girlfriend who thought it was so strange that I didn't care about people. I dunno wtf happened but I made a bit of an effort and glad I did. Life is much better with cool people in your life. Sure, I still spend half my time online and on my PC probably but doesn't everyone really need a balance? Really, this is not a diss but I think I know where you're at. Damn I didn't get laid for so long cos I couldn't bother with the effort. How lame. Not long and with a bit of effort and I was meeting lots of chicks who were interested. People aren't ment to be alone. Life is too short.

I reckon one of the best ways to make friends is invite people to a dinner party. And I don't mean a braai ! It is essential that everyone sits around a dining table, which keeps them close together, and stops the group splitting into male/female.

With a fair amount of alcohol, parties like this can zing. And the next thing - your social circle has expanded !

Dave.

Just be wary of some of the advice (traps) on this board. The hardest thing about having friends is finding an endless supply of excuses not to see them.
