I'm doing a project to determine which parts of South Africa suffers the most from total lack of ADSL access or very slow access as compared to what you should be getting. How are things in your area? Post images if possible.

Are you interested in really bad attenuation/SNR values?

Attenuation -50db
SNR - 11db @ 3Mbps
(on a 10Mbps line.)

If you live in South Africa, you have very slow ADSL, period. Even the oil/mining barons with a few grand to spare each month only get up to 10Mbps.

I have the 384kbps Line, R152 + Line rental. I read that most ADSL users use the 384kbps line which means the average download speed in South Africa should be about 70kb/s I estimate. Telkom should really upgrade our lines now to 1MB. And its true, if you live in SA you will always get slow Broadband.

We can also blame the ISP's who throttle people to death for using their uncapped service, even capped services get shaped. SA Internet is in a mess at the moment.

Snr and line attenuation will be helpful. I have found some places that have ultra low attenuation but the snr is terrible. The areas I have noticed so for are Meyerton (Vereeniging) and Phalaborwa. Where else?

Actually if you want 1Mb/s you have to call Telkom for them to upgrade you.

slow ADSL? no way, 384 is blazing man!
jokes aside, from what i've read here, most of the cape and some laani areas in jhb are having issues with saturated/congested exchanges these days
