Do you need a 5G specific sim card? Data keeps dropping

I'm asking because my sim card is almost 5 years old and when I got it I dont think that 5G was available.

The problem I'm having with iphone 14 is that the celluar data just randomly stops working. It'll work fine and then all of a sudden just stop. Going into airplane mode and out again fixes it. It happens at least three times a day and I'm wondering if it's the sim card that could be causing the problem?

I have a similar issue but I would not say that data drops completely. Usually going into an app like FNB or Checkers Sixty60 may not work, but regular website browsing is fine. In those instances, going into airplane mode and out of it fixes it.

So, just curious, do you also have problems with regular websites when you experience that issue?

I have problems with anything that needs the internet. Be it Safari or and app, nothing works until I go in and out of airplane mode.

Still experiencing this one month in, anyone else having this problem with an iPhone 14 pro

Interesting.
I have sim cards from different networks.
The Telkom sim started doing this about a month back.
And exactly like you, going in and out again of airplane mode refreshes the connection.

**note.
I'm not using an iPhone.
Interestingly, I have roaming enabled on the telkom sim. MTN is the local roaming partner.

It may be a cellular problem on out networks somehow? I’m not sure how it works but I know when there are problems on a network the data connection behaves in a similar way.

Have an iPhone 12 and experience same issue with LTE almost daily. 5G on my iPhone seem to not give the same problem. As I have battery saving activated most of the time, it’s on LTE permanently and I get the same issue. For it to go away, I either turn off battery saving (which makes the phone switch to 5G) or turn airplane mode on and off again to re-establish the LTE connection…
