Something not understood about those of us who are anti-gun usage.
  • Many of us have a healthy respect for gun owners' rights - it's your choice.
  • Some of us have actually used weapons - was in the army, got quite good at shooting with my riffle.

We also know that guns get people shot when tempers are lost, or kids find them, even cleaning them is dangerous for those not careful enough.
We respect your rights, respect our decision not to too.
What utter rubbish, the anti gun crowd want nobody to have guns. They are part of the problem

Airguns are described in the FCA, even though you know it was not a legit question.

Sound like it might make a somewhat effective club, that is not described in the FCA.

Question is legitimate. Your assumption of my knowledge is not factual.
I have no knowledge about firearm legislation. Kinda just assumes it might be ok for the air gun to lurk in the back of a closet. Heard something once about speed of projectile playing a role or licensing?

Still have the question tough

All the GFSA aunties you are welcome to have a FREE long weekend at one of our old farmhouses the beautiful snow covered mountains are only just a stones throw away.
You will have no dogs, no security, no flood lights, no barbed wire, NO FIREARMS or an electric fence.
I will happily give you the local SAPS number.
Come now you dream world sweethearts any takers?
Fusken Chickens.

The calibre of the projectile and energy. If it's grater than .22 and (or?) something like 8 Joules of energy at the muzzle, it gets classified as a firearm.

Of course it is...

Tel 'n ou windbuks met 'n pap veer en skewe visier?

But I will humour you since I am in a good mood and you are too lazy to read the FCA.

Definition of an Airgun In Terms of the Law

(Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000) (as amended up to 31/01/2015)

An airgun is any airgun with a calibre of below 5.6mm regardless of power/energy at the muzzle.

An airgun is any airgun with a calibre of 5.6mm and above but is manufactured to be incapable of shooting at powers/energy of no more than 8 joules / 6 foot pounds at the muzzle.

Any airgun that exceeds both the 5.6mm calibre and muzzle energy of 8 joules / 6 foot pounds is classified as a firearm in South Africa and in terms of the FCA a firearms licence is required to own and operate such. Hereinafter referred to as a “LCA – Large Calibre Airgun” class airgun.

So, your pap veer windbuks is an airgun as it is likely 4.5mm (.177) and has a pap veer.
Does not need a license.

But, point it at someone or shoot someone with it, will be seen as if it is a firearm in terms of charges you might face.

Use it as a club/bat.

Not a good topic to be discussing on a forum. The "authorities" will be reading all here, so I prefer to not admit to anything.

If you own a firearm legally, they already know.

Takes then 6months plus to record it on their kak system
A large amount of cops are illiterate and have no idea how to spell PC, so I wonder how well their gun owner database is maintained. Our guv is incapable of providing the most basic of services like water and power.
