Best is when non-firearm owners argue with you about the laws.

Been told it's illegal to carry hollow-point ammunition so many times.
Ja, its highly dangerous with a 9mm....blows holes in tanks...

Big issue at the toll gate North of Pretoria at the moment with cops (Metro if I recall) targeting firearm owners will all sorts of bullshit rules they make up.
JA, I read on 4x4community there has been endless **** there. I travel that way quite frequently and I've never been stopped.

Can you do ballistics on hollow-points?

Yes it is possible.

However, there are a number of studies which debunk the accuracy and effectiveness of ballistic testing on bullets or bullet fragments, very interesting reading.

In short, it is not as clear cut as it seems, or as they make it look in CSI.

So better to use normal ammo so is easier to recover them before freezing the body?

How does one get past this?

Make sure whatever you do is legal.
Have your licenses with you.
Have a copy of the FCA with you.
I read somewhere (could be GunSite) that there was a directive around this from Metro - if so, maybe find and carry a copy of that.
Have a good lawyer who understands the FCA on speed dial.
Have a dash cam.
When you are in a roadblock or get asked about carrying, comply with any legal instructions, and always handle firearms safely if need be.
Be courteous and do not lose your cool.
Make sure whatever you do is legal.

Still will not stop some thirsty or hungry Metro cop to try extort KFC from you, but it can only help.

and when they say your hollow-points are illegal?

Have fortunately never been in that situation, but the argument for it is (just my opinion).
It is legal to buy at any gun shop on your license, and any ammunition which you can buy legally is legal to carry and use.
The FCA does not state that it is illegal to carry and use hollow-points, therefore it is perfectly legal - so ask them to point to the Act which makes it illegal.

What I just cannot understand, is this is not new. It has been reported multiple times and is ongoing, as I understand, and yet no one has deemed it time to do an undercover investigation? WTH?

I think there is just no desire from those in charge to lift their fat behinds from their chairs to do something about it, it is probably too much like real work.

'Normal' ammo likely will pass through the the target and therein lies the problem. No expansion and overpenetration. I get that it's a joke, but still.

Yep, and that's all there is to it.

Yeah, you don't want to be charged with manslaughter if your bullet hits an innocent bystander.
