Owning a firearm can present various challenges and risks that make it less desirable. Firstly, the presence of a firearm in a household increases the likelihood of accidents or unintentional injuries, especially when not properly stored or handled. Additionally, the availability of firearms can escalate conflicts or impulsive actions, potentially leading to irreversible consequences. Moreover, the presence of firearms has been linked to higher rates of suicide and domestic violence. But that said, Owning a firearm can provide individuals with a sense of personal security and self-defense, offering a means of protection in potentially dangerous situations. But still in my position, I think owning one is just not for me.

What is "DSS status" and how can you own TWO and/or FOUR guns without it?

DSS is Dedicated Sport Shooting status = unlimited firearms

You can have have 4 firearms without DSS:

1 on Sect13 - Self Defence
3 more on Sect15 - Occasional Sport or Hunt Shooting

Since when is a handgun different to a firearm?

Greetings everyone, brand new to this forum
I tried registering last year some time and got an error message about no new registrations allowed at the time.
I thought let me try again, and well here I am now.

Reading through this specific thread, it's quite shocking that there's a bunch of "Anti Gun" spew on here, didn't think the anti spew would be this strong in South Africa, and it's all the "classic" spew that is being pushed in the US, even though our laws, regulations, legislation and socio-economics in South Africa is vastly different from America's. And not to mention all the "braai stories" regarding FA's the rounds.

I honestly wanted to "promote" something on here, the forum I mean, but now after reading through this thread I'll rather not.
?

You wanted to promote something?
Let's rather just forget about that. I guess if you're interested, I'll be happy to share a private message with you.

I'll rather just "join" the discussion, participate and share the limited verifiable knowledge I have about FA's overall and debunk all the anti spew and braai stories.

Just an ordinary Joe, that has a passion for pews ;) and everything pertaining to it, living in Gauteng :( and has a career in Security/ Surveillance field.
Obviously have DSS and do some sporting disciplines, I'm also on GS ;)
We need to try an educate the "uninitiated" when it comes to FA's in a friendly & polite manner.
Debunk (fight) the anti spew, braai stories and promote the good, governments overreach SAPS etc into the FCA is too much, as for one example CFR serves no purpose in South Africa, and actually needs to be dissolved entirely.
