Received an email from them last September that I had 2 fines for May 2015, hadn't received summons or ticket as was living abroad. Refused to pay till I renewed license, no notices on system when I got new disk in January, in Pinelands.
Guess no paying fines for me going forward.
 
Nope. Most of my fines are stupid. Like doing 71 in a 60 or 91 in an 80. That's not really law enforcement. It's revenue generation.
 
If a speeding fine is handed to me and I could verify the accuracy (certificate). I do not receive any mailed or e-mailed fines - Prove delivery and receipt! If it is not registered or delivered later than the prescribed period I don't pay.
 
I don't get speed fines because I keep an eye out for cameras. It's cheaper to run over pedestrians while your eyes are on the side of the road looking for cameras.

Same here. If I am copped fair and square at the roadside, with a summons, I pay.

Send me a form in the post for something you allege I did a month ago, when I may not have been driving, you can forget it.

Yeah that's what I did too until I suddenly received something like 8 fines in a row on a camera that they obviously zoned wrong.

What's even funnier is that the speed limit sign of 80 is on the actual bloody photos where they claim it's a 60.

Ignored it and it magically went away...no surprise.

My wife on the other hand manages to get them often and I now just wait for the summons before volunteering money for what might be an incorrect fine.

Nope, but the other day they stopped me at Ventersdorp and made me pay R2000 at one of those busses.
 
What's the deal with fines in Cape Town, i find that they arrive only about 5 weeks after the alleged offence.
My last one arrived as a notice before summons, 5 months after the alleged offence, and I never saw previous notices on that infringement!

Me and my old man got some other fines too a year ago, but notice for summons never arrives? What gives? Do they get lost in the system and then the traffic department gives up?

I have always paid my fines using either the Standard Bank online option or PayCity (PayMyFines) online.
Once I had a fine from an outlying Municipality that was not registered with PayCity or one of those online options so I ignored it, its been several years now and I have never received a summons.
 
Hi off topic does anyone know if they trap or have permanent cameras on the gillooys flyover bridge.
 
I used to pay my fines when they were linked to the license renewal and car registration.

Since that link was removed I stopped paying them.
 
Last week I would have said yes, but haven't received one in 12 years.

This week received 4 in two days.

Does anyone know if there is a time limit in which notice can be issued? I came across this little gem, but don't know it's validity
After an infringement is captured on camera, within 30 days, a notice of offence under Section 341 of the Criminal Procedure Act must be generated and sent to the alleged infringer.

3 of the 4 fines I received are for May and June this year...but all more than 30 days.
I tried looking on easypay.co.za and the two I checked all said zero to pay.

The rule is ignore fines until a summons is served or its a spot fine, ie a traffic officer writes you a fine because that serves as a summons. Fines don't prescribe/expire for a long time, they stay valid for years, I once had to pay a few years worth of fines in one go.
