Call me a sentimentalist, voice note from older family members - yes.

Work acquaintances - please don't.

I think people prefer to get text notes and send voice notes.
What really annoys me is people I know who sends out long voice notes, but before they send it, they first listen to their own again.

I would pay WhatsApp for transcription services, but only if they add Afrikaans too.

Its a bit distracting texting while driving so voice notes work for that scenario..

I'm paying for Telegram, which gives me transcription for English.
Afrikaans works some of the time, but very hit and miss as once it incorrectly identified the note as English it's a mess.

Isn't transcription built into whatever OS your phone utilises?
I'm aware of the Pixel's transcription, but not other ones.
(Running crDroid on my xiaomi phone).

Waiting for the new Pixel 8 then go Graphene OS.

Bruh. My boss only uses voice. I remember one time instead of typing “Thank you”, she sends a voice note instead.

I only send voice notes while driving. I sometimes send voice notes to my sisters when I make fun of them or tease them. But it's not often.

This thread has reinforced my opinion driving is the only correct time send voice notes.

CarPlay will only allow siri to dictate messages via WhatsApp while I drive. So annoying. It’s the perfect time to catch up with people in different time zones.

I also hate them, especially if you called and I responded by saying I'm in a meeting can't talk, and then receive a fckng voice note. If I couldn't talk to you I sure as fck can't listen to a voicenote. So I tend to ignore them most of the time.

I have no preference. I use both. Both have a place.

Sometimes text is more efficient. Sometimes voice is more efficient. Depends on circumstance.

As long as when you use voice don't ummm and ahhh through it please :)

Agreed.

Although I will use voice but sparingly for work. Some circumstances have necessitated it. If I'm not at a keyboard and unable to make a call, and there's a complex matter I need to address with a colleague quickly while in transit, then I will use voice. I usually start the note off with a quick apology though :D

Wife and I use it frequently though, as when we are out and about we don't have time to fiddle with mobile keyboards (Although she is better at it than me, I always typo every third fekking word).

Have sent them on very rare occasion. Sometimes they make sense to use. Mainly find them annoying due to the fact that they can't be searched for or easily referenced to so messages like "oh and while you're at the store could you pick up x, y & z" can be a pain if you reach the store and can't remember what it was and instead of glancing at a text you gotta sit and listen to the message again.

Getting a voice note of your ex girlfriend having an orgasm is much better than getting text that says, "oooh aaaaah im coming"
