If you have eczema, what could possible underlying causes be? I seem to have picked it up this year, but my diet or environment has not changed nor the products that I use. It's on my feet so definitely not sanitizer , I think

Need to visit a dermatologist
My friend stopped eating dairy because he watched a stupid Zac Efron show on Netflix. I mocked him about it but... I’ve known this guy for a decade, and I can see that his eczema is gone.

Are you sure it's not Athletes Foot? I hear it looks similar but don't know.

My eczema is mild, mostly on the face and scalp. Just a development with age. Could be lots of reasons for yours though.

Oops. I meant to mean lower limb, from ankle to knees. Definitely no athletes foot

Allergies are nasty. I wish all of you who have them good luck.

Any alcohol based deodorant and just when sprayed on my armpits.

Many years ago I picked up some strange fungal infection in my armpits and nothing would get it to go away (lotions and potions had no effect at all). One day I said fuggit, I need to get rid of these armpit hairs (I had, in my minds eye, a valid reason for them to go but I forget now) and since my armpits were swollen and bleeding I could not shave. I did the next best thing any (in)sane man would do. I nicked the Wifeys Veet and liberally applied to both armpits (Who reads instructions anyway amirite?).

Many many minutes later when the burning subsided, coupled with a few kms of running up and down the passage with my arms flailing above my head whilst I am blowing on each armpit and the Wifey stopped rolling on the floor with laughter, she wiped up the hair and voila, the swelling subsided after a while and the infection was gone within a day or two. But since then no deodorant spray as it burns the skin and I break out in welts.

I used to take Allergex non-drowsy (small yellow pills) OTC at any Pharmacy.

The root cause has to be addressed though. The pills just alleviate the symptoms temporarily. I used to do steam baths/showers and breathing steam (towel and bowl) - then cardio exercises on the treadmill. It helped a lot.

A nasal washing pot helps as well if you use it daily after bath.

There's no 'cure' for it unfortunately. You just have to 'desensitise' yourself to the triggers like pollen/dust/etc. Keeping humidity indoors at a good level helps a lot too.

We actually have it easy. My brother is allergic to all opiates and antibiotics... He swelled up like a balloon after taking it for the first time.

The root cause is its spring here in Cape Town, I don't think I can do anything about pollen and spring! Unless I go to another country till summer starts

Animal hairs. All animals that I've ever come across. I do have a dog though, but I just grin and bear it. Mostly skin related (rashes), but some animals (cats and horses) cause swollen, itchy eyes.

Also dust (causes asthma) and dry grass (again skin rashes).

And then skin care with fragrances cause eczema.

I developed some hives + red swellings from cat hair on my side (neighbours cat was sleeping on my side - on the sofa with it's body against my side).

Not sure whether it's an allergic reaction or just germs/virii/bacteria. I used sme Betadine antiseptic ointment and it helped.

used to have bad hayfever. doctor prescribed XYZAL. told me the slogan is it the the end (XYZ) of Allergies.
Used 2 boxes of it, bout 10 years ago. And since then I very seldom have hayfever. now I take nothing for it anymore.
Sofar this year I had non, where previously in September I was dead.

Adult onset allergy to prawns. Not all shellfish, just prawns. I can eat mussels and oysters. Didn't have an issue until my late 20s when it hit. Maybe too many prawn specials from Rafikis.

PRAWNS!!!

My Sister-In-Law, was so allergic to prawns, that if she walked past your home and you where cooking prawns, and you could smell the prawns - she reacted badly to it.

Not pleasant. Died of colon cancer.
