The experience of buying petrol is the same experience as buying at Checkers. Do you tip the cashier packing your bags? In Europe people pack their own bags.
Read your post genius.

If you tip the petrol pump attendant, you should also tip the lady who packs your bags at Checkers. Don't give me nonsense about it could be seen as theft. People also pay cash for petrol at petrol stations.
They can't pack s.....t I'll pack my own bags, thank you very much. My own bags that I remembered to bring along.

Where is the law, quote it for me first.

So, something changed at checkers, at least at mall of africa. I happened to have loose change and gave it to the helper staff but she said they are not allowed to accept tips anymore.
What I said, it makes sense if you understand the kind of job they do. Sometimes the tills are short of money when they reconcile, how would it look if they are seen on the cameras pocketing some cash?

And lastly, I think you understand the dilemma of tipping for a person who works with money the way the till workers do, what happens when they are short and were seen pocketing some tip money, looks like a sure way of attracting trouble, so even in those rare occasion when I feel like tipping I would not, because it could easily be construed as them stealing from their employer.

Service charge included. No prompt on receipt or handheld machine. So how much is the tip at the petrol station? In restaurants it's about 10-15%.
I just tip R10 these days as they clean both windscreens and fill tyres.

Really ? I didn't know they had similar system to restaurants. Does it go to that guy or gets split between all ? Some restaurant waiters have told me to pay them cash as tip as sometimes each restaurant has a different policy.
Really. I do it all the time at my local garage.

That said, when I tried to do the same at the garage at Table Bay mall, it seemed you needed a certain banks credit card scanner. Fortunately I had R10 in change to give the dude.

Although it wasn't the R20 I said he could add on.

Rich in terms of hearts not heartlessness.

Giving money to someone with a protected, almost guaranteed job? You do know the unemployment rate in SA? I give to genuinely poor people. Not that I have to justify to you.

No law. But if you want to argue for tipping the petrol pumper you should justify why you don't tip other people.
I actually made no such argument, I just said I do tip them and gave my reasons, you are the one came out of nowhere and made an argument about it.

You did say: Looks like there is also a tipping culture for petrol attendants.
