Rather have one installed and be a bit safer. Besides, a nasty might come from a trusted source.

I use ClamAV to perform a full scan once every week to be sure I don't have any nasties which I might inadvertently copy over to my clients systems (they're using windows).

I don't; I don't keep any Windows files on my Linux boxes, so not too worried, although it probably comes in useful for Linux file servers hosting Windows data :D

Nope, I don't use an anti virus.. :p

Has there ever been an even marginally "successful" virus written for Linux systems?
I must say that I'm not aware of any - not that that negates the possibility.. ;)

No point... I use linux... whats it going to do? I wanna see it run sudo and type in my password :P Now that would be an impressive virus.

Note to new Linux users: No antivirus needed

One of the most common questions I hear new Linux users ask is "What program should I use for virus protection?" Many of them lose faith in me as a source of security information when I reply, "None." But you really don't need to fear malware on your new platform, thanks to the way Linux is built.

The last time I had a virus was in 2003. Not kidding. It was on a Windows machine and I did get the virus thanks to a friend's err... file sharing. Never made that mistake again, thank you very much.
On my Linux machine I just make an effort (not much effort needed) not to visit any dodgy sites or download applications from sites with little or no good reputation.

I think there are very few linux viruses because most of the script jockeys probably use linux.;)

Some viruses can infect WINE within linux.
You had better define "infect" WINE.

There is blog somewhere I stumbled upon with someone trying out all the mayor virii on Linux with WINE, what a laugh! Except for clearing out ~/.wine each time before you test another virus, exactly why should I worry of a virus that infects WINE????

What's the idea of infecting WINE? It's like swearing to me in Chinese. I'll laugh at you, think you're damn funny. Nothing else.

What is antivirus?

"Antivirus": A tool built by beings enslaved by the evil Microsoft boss to try and stop Linux users from infiltrating the Windows partition and infecting it with seemingly harmful media and scripts.
